I was a CEO of the Research Development Foundation (FUNDEP) (from 2010 to 2014) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). It carries out the administrative and financial management of UFMG research projects and other important teaching and research centers in Brazil. With specialized assistance, the Foundation offers exclusive services such as proposal development, fundraising, purchasing, imports, hiring of personnel, legal advice, accountability, management of competitions, among others. To have an understanding of the complexity of the organization, in the last year of my administration FUNDEP had managed 3.926 projects of research, dealing with around US$150 millions, with 380 employees. During my management, FUNDEP started to support projects of research institutions beyond the UFMG, such as the Brazilian Space Agency, the National Nuclear Energy Commission, National Institute of Spatial Research, Technological Institute of Aeronautics, and others. During my tenure at the Foundation, I structured the support program for UFMG's spin-offs through the creation of FUNDEP Participations S.A., which contributes resources (equity) to UFMG's nascent technology-based firms, thus working to strengthen the university- company relationship.
