In addition to carrying out my day-to-day cost-related work and technical advices, I now undertake advocacy on behalf of clients.

Technical Costs Specialist

May 2016 - Aug 2017
While I continued to deal with ordinary costs draftsman legal work, such as the preparation of Bills of Costs and Precedent H Costs Budgets, my role extended to providing advice on general and particularly niche costs related issues. The second element to this role is to increase my involvement in Costs Management Conferences, Detailed Assessment Hearings and other cost related Application Hearings such as interim payments or relief from sanctions, with a view to becoming a competent costs advocate. In addition to office-related work I also provided training to clients and legal professionals on costs related issues such as: costs maximising, costs management, Part 36 offers and proportionality. Law Costs Draftsman

Nov 2013 - May 2016
At Paragon my skill set, knowledge and abilities have extended enormously. I dealt with very high value Bills of Costs, the preparation of comprehensive Precedent H Costs Budgets and Court of Protection work. The majority of my case load was Claimant orientated, however I also continued to deal with Defendant and audit work.In terms of areas of law, these included (but not limited to): catastrophic road traffic accidents involving brain injuries and capacity related issues, complex clinical negligence, mesothelioma, commercial disputes, contractual disputes and professional negligence.I have prepared Bills of Costs in excess of £1.6million and Costs Budgets in excess of £1.2million. Law Costs Draftsman
-
Jun 2011 - Nov 2013
I dealt with all aspects of the detailed assessment process. I predominantly dealt with Defendant work and audit work, but my case load did include some Claimant work as well. My skill set also extended to Northern Ireland law which included the County Court Scale Fees. I got to grips with costs very quickly and after 6 months of employment started to provide support to other junior members. After a year into the role I had developed a reputation for being the person to go to when you had a question and was very much involved in the development and training of junior members. Show less
