Chairman Of The Board
-
Jan 2017 - Jan 2018
Chairman of the Uttlesford District in the Young Essex Assembly. The goal of the YEA is to listen to the voices of the youth in Essex, thus their issues and interests can be correctly addressed and articulated. The main focus of my term as Chairman was discrimination that young people still face on a daily basis. My solution was to raise the issues, so that topics such as discrimination; whether it be gender, race or disability can be brought up in public discussion. The second stand of my solution was to increase the number of staff in schools, that can deal with such issues within the education system. With more people who are willing and able to listen to your issues, then the problem can be stamped out effectively.

Writer and researcher at Third Party - a website concerning the economic and political news around the globe. The first article that I published described the aftermath of the Scottish referendum which linked to the issue of whether 16 and 17 year olds should be or should have been given the vote. This comprehensive piece included facts and figures showing the massive divide rooted in Scotland from the under 25s and the over 60's in their decision of whether Scotland should become independent. This was followed up by an article that was dedicated to the destructive snap election set by Teresa May in June 2017. Even before election day, there was speculation along with opinion polls which suggested that the Conservative party would lose their majority. Although the result was a spectacular failure by the Tories, this article concerned why the election was called in the first place. Another final piece for the website described an iconic but obscure event that most people do not know about. More of a story than an article, it told the tale of Vasili Arkhipov, the man that saved humanity from destruction.

Resolution selected for full discussion in the MUN Delegate of Economic department for Romania in the debate. My resolution revolved around the promise of nations to stick to the 0.7% GDP target for foreign aid. The resolution was debated, with arguments out forward and questions answered. In the final vote, the resolution was passed by the MUN. Resolution selected for full discussion in the MUN Delegate of Economic department for Romania in the debate. Alongside Tony Cockerill and Cambridge University, I took part in a simulation of the UK economy, which took into consideration economic factors such as interest rates and trade. The computer simulation conducted on the day allows economists to predict the ups and downs of the UK economy in regards to changes in the overall conditions.
