I am researching lee waves, internal gravity waves formed over complex ocean topography, in the Southern Ocean, and their effects on turbulent mixing. The first part of this research involves complex statistical and spectral analysis of an exceptionally high resolution transect of fine-scale hydrographic measurements, with the goal of identifying direct observations of a lee wave. The following steps aim to quantify the energy dissipation and transport of this phenomenon in order to provide a better understanding of turbulent processes across the entire Southern Ocean.
