My role at St Mark's covers a wide range of the marketing and communications mix, including strategy development (digital and offline), marketing, community engagement public relations, media relations, website management, copywriting, editing, graphic design, advertising, alumni relations and more. In a School with close to 1,800 students, more than 1,100 families and more than 2,000 registered members of the alumni association, it is a very busy, but very rewarding role. In the nine years since I joined St Mark's, I have overseen a number of key projects, including a refresh of the visual identity, implementation of digital tools to support Admissions and Marketing staff, supporting the implementation of digital tools for families, and launching the School's now flourishing social media presence, which includes three Facebook pages, 17 linked parent Facebook groups, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as Twitter and Pinterest. While employed at Mills Wilson, I prepared a wide variety of communications tools for clients in the corporate and government sector, including webcopy, media releases, electronic mail, community newsletters, training materials and more. In addition, I was involved with managing and promoting community sponsorship and community engagement programs. While my partner took up a contract in United Arab Emirates, I took the opportunity to work freelance and completed ad hoc writing/editing assignments. My most significant assignment was for Explorer Publishing, where I co-authored a travel guide to Abu Dhabi. I also wrote for a number of websites, including www.petesweekly.com (a South African SMME website) www.expatwoman.com (Abu Dhabi-based) and www.tashitagg.com (a South African general interest website).
