During my training at the Jaduguda mine of UCIL, I had the privilege of experiencing an entirely new environment filled with valuable lessons. Known for its abundant reserves of uranium, Uranium Corporation of India Ltd. at Jaduguda has a rich history dating back to its discovery in 1951 by the Atomic Mineral Division, with production beginning in 1966. As Indias second deepest mine, reaching an impressive 880m level, I was exposed to the cut & fill method of mining employed here. My time at the mine allowed me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the mining process and witness the seamless collaboration between various departments such as geology, physics, survey, electrical, and mechanical. It became evident that each department plays a crucial role in the smooth functioning of the mine. Notably, the physics department's involvement in assessing the radioactivity of the mine proved invaluable in providing an economically viable ore grade. There is so much more to discuss about the Jaduguda mine, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such an intriguing and educational experience. Show less

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is a government owned steel producer based in New Delhi, India. It was started in 2005. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Steel, Government of India. I have learned the one of the methods of extraction i.e., Longwall Advancing with Single Ended Ranging Drum Shearer with TCR Support system. We come to know that in JITPUR Colliery of SAIL the longwall is excavated using road header cutting machine, which is used for driving roadways. We also learned about different roof control equipment's, strata monitoring process, stowing process (JITPUR colliery is 1st mine in Dhanbad region where stowing is done with bottom ash), ventilation etc. The process of working is systematic and safe.
