~Utilized AutoCAD Electrical to revise electrical schematics for both electromechanical and PLC based heat pumps to reflect field modifications. ~Acquired hands on experience creating UL grade electrical boards for heat pumps and wiring all the hardware components together. ~Created a calculator in Excel to calculate the optimal fan, belt, motor combo for each individual heat pump application to optimize energy efficiency. Found over 30% energy savings possible. ~Participated in weekly company meetings and design meetings where I got exposed to the engineering process of creating new products based on customer needs and price point. ~Utilized Solidworks to model products. In doing so I learned that manufacturing processes can have huge tolerances and to model the product using nice numbers that make sense for the application. ~Gained machine shop experience utilizing machinery to create simple metal parts. • Senior Project: Rolling Mill Slab Tracking
      • Sep 2014 - May 2015

~Designed algorithms for PLC/HMI programs to track slabs going through a rolling mill and accounted for slippage errors using photo eye sensors and a force sensor within the mill. From this I learned the value of dynamic planning, along with having all scenarios documented out in advance. ~Designed algorithms to detect equipment malfunctions, pinpoint cause of error, and alter the previous algorithms used to control the processes accordingly. From this I gained problem solving skills to both pinpoint potential problems in design and create fail-safes for the design. ~Created real-time 2D model of the mill using HMI, in which users can both control the real physical mill at Kaiser Aluminum and see relevant information. Through this I learned how useful the HMI can be for troubleshooting errors within the PLC. ~Utilized Microsoft Project to create a GANT chart to maximize time management and ensure critical time sensitive tasks were done first. With that said, we still found out that the last 20% of the project takes 70% of the time and how essential it is to keep ahead of deadlines. Show less

      • May 2013 - Aug 2013

~Designed blueprints of doors and windows for multi-million dollar projects using AutoCAD. During this process I learned the importance of making the design as easy to manufacture as possible for cost optimization, while fulfilling the design specifications for the project. ~Collaborated with the salesmen, foremen, and rest of the commercial department to accomplish the given tasks, which gave me valuable insight on how actual teamwork is implemented. ~On site experience with foremen, building the doors and frames from scratch, after which installing windows in them. This in turn gave me first hand jobsite experience on how my ideas will be implemented in real life, and showed me that there is a difference between theoretical, and what can actually be applied. ~Experience referencing the finished blueprints and quoting the material needed to complete the job, which gave me an insight on how even small errors can easily cost the company over a hundred thousand dollars causing the wrong parts to be ordered and extending the project schedule. ~Scheduled residential jobs, contacted customers, verified that everything is set for the next day, and assigned installers to the jobs. From this I gained management experience, coordinating both customers and workers. Show less
