Major Accomplishment: Overhauled communications by leading an organizational rebrand, consolidating three units and their respective missions under the Latino Studies name, web and social media presence to clarify our missions and collectively position us as “a powerhouse of Latinx thought and advocacy at UT.”Oversee all external communications for three distinct but collaborative academic units: The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS), the Department of Mexican American & Latina/o Studies, and the Latino Research Institute. Tailor communications to a variety of overlapping audience segments, from students, faculty, and researchers to community organizations, activists and policymakers while navigating the conflicting politics, generational divides, regionalisms, and colorful dispositions of constituencies, both lay and expert. Conceptualize promotional campaigns, draft copy and oversee art design for website, email, social media, print, swag, and other departmental assets, in accordance with both Latino Studies and University branding guidelines. Quickly and strategically respond to a long list of copywriting needs: academic conferences, community presentations, development brochures, admissions partnerships, alumni engagement, community advertisements, and more.
