  Highlights: - Creating, maintaining, and updating software code for scientific research needs as part of an agile-working team of developers (mainly in Python). - Working closely with clients, stakeholders, and users to consult on the development of specific software packages and requirements engineering. - DevOps activities including working with GitHub Actions, Docker, and cloud infrastructure via Openstack. I was a research software engineer at STFC, working in the Research Software Development team at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. My role involved developing, maintaining, updating, and validating scientific code to meet the needs of ISIS’ scientific users. I worked closely with clients, stakeholders, and users to consult on the development of specific software packages and requirements engineering. In addition to this, I contributed to DevOps activities and use GitHub Actions CI/CD for software testing and validation. I gained experience with Docker for containerization, including working on an internal Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructure to run GitHub Actions CI/CD on self-hosted/on-prem hardware. Show less

  Highlights: - Adapted existing data analysis code and used it on dataset on the scale of gigabytes to draw relevant conclusions and insights. - Created new methods and software for analysing and visualizing datasets using Python and R, based on knowledge gained from literature review. - Optimized code for multithreaded running on Linux servers. - Worked within a small, dynamic research group to analyse progress on research projects and create practical, actionable solutions to technical issues. During my King's Undergraduate Research Fellowship (KURF) programme, I collaborated with academics in the programming education research group at the Department of Informatics on "Extending the Blackbox mini dataset: a deeper understanding of Java novices’ practices". My tasks included adapting the analysis from a previous KURF project to a new dataset, creating new analysis goals and software to extend the data, and gaining experience in data reduction, analysis, and visualization using Python and R, specifically the matplotlib and ggplot2 libraries. I also gained invaluable experience working in a research team and gained great insight into the processes and practicalities involved in producing research outcomes. My work culminated in becoming a co-author of an accepted paper in the ACM Transactions on Computing Education (TOCE) Journal. Show less
