  Ferrocement Canopy 10.000m2 : unique structure with unique techniques and construction methodologies. SNFCC project (Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center) The new National Opera House & National Library construction. The floating wing-like Canopy above the new National Opera House has been designed along with the whole SNFCC project by the visionary architect Renzo Piano. Mr. Renzo Piano likes calling the canopy as “flying carpet” or “the cloud in suspension above the building”. The Canopy is considered the most special element of the whole SNFCC project in terms of architectural & statical interest, an exceptional mechanical and construction achievement. The Canopy has dimesnsions of 100x100m and consists of 717 pre-fabricated ferrocement sections that are connected to each other with 7.500m of invisible scriptures, its highest point is 46 meters above ground level, it is supported by 30 thin columns and the PV system installed on it will produce approx. 2GWh of power per year. This energy production will cover more than 50% of Opera’s daily electricity needs or the 13% to 15% of the Opera’s electricity needs during performance daysof performances. Apart from the PV installation, the Canopy’ shade will also offer additional energy savings by lowering the building’s temperature. Additional to the canopy construction, 6 months before the completion of the whole SNFCC project, I took over also all the works and structures on the roof of the Opera House, for the completion of the Opera House : the glass house library, roof insulations, all concrete works, landscaping, etc. Show less

  New Shopping Center Complex Building in Athens CreeceThe construction of a six (6) storey shopping center, located on Filadelfias and Samou Str, next to Larissis Railway Station in Athens. The shopping center comprises of six (6) levels of superstructure and six (6) underground levels covering a total area of 22.300sq.m.Carrefour and Saturn are hosted on the retail areas while the underground levels are comprised of parking areas with the capacity to accommodate 223 cars.

  New Special Design - Luxurious Residential Building at Metaxourgio Athens GreeceThe complex is a high aesthetic contemporary residential building the architectural design of which has arisen from an international architectural competition (102 attendances from both Greece and abroad). Moreover, in 2010 the complex was awarded the prize for “Best Implemented project of the years 2007-2009” by the international architectural review “DOMES”. The complex is developed in five (5) levels around a central atrium, and consists of 41 apartments and three (3) shops at the ground level by Myllerou Str. The building disposes four vertical circulation cores (both stairways and elevators) ensuring both easy access to the apartments and privacy for their inhabitants. Furthermore, there are two (2) underground levels in the Complex - the 2nd underground level used as a parking area and the 1st underground level where the storage rooms and a heated communal swimming pool is located. One underground level and one level of superstructure total 7.200m2, all concrete structure plus surrounding ground level parking areas and planting. From beginning of excavations until the opening day from Carrefour for the public, it took only 3 months. On that project I was the construction manager, the site manager, the foreman, the procurement manager etc etc, all in one... It was a small miracle.   Since I was a student at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), I started working on the "Papanikas Evangelos Technical Office" at Aharnes area in Athens, as an assistant and later on as a junior engineer on the study of small private buildings (mainly new houses) as along on construction supervision of the concrete works. In that period I had a break of around one year (Aug 1994 to June 1995) in which I was in the Greek Airforce out of Athens.
