This placement involved undertaking research involving paeds. The specific study I have been assisting and running on was looking into Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, Intensive Exercise Programs and Motor learning and understanding if there was a relationship between these factors in children with Cerebral Palsy. My knowledge of appropriate outcome measures has been strengthened and I am able to lead a follow up assessment independently. Also, this placement cemented my experiences of working with children, an area that I feel confident in. I am able to communicate effectively and calmly with children and their parents. Show less

    • Acute General Medicine
      • Mar 2020 - Apr 2020

I have completed a 5 week physiotherapy placement on the Acute General Medicine ward at the John Radcliffe hospital. This experience has strengthened my skills and knowledge surrounding discharge planning, use of assistive equipment and in depth subjective assessments. Also, I was regularly communicating with patients with dementia and delirium which increased my ability to read behaviour as communication. This experience made me aware of various health conditons more prevelant in the older population and the best physiotherapy management stratergies to assist with the management of the condition. It highlighted the importance of getting patients home as efficently and safely as possible. The role of team wokring was key as the whole MDT involvement is crucial for an effective discharge. I worked as a Physiotherapy Assistant within the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Team. I was resposible for completing individualised exercise sessions with inpatients and outpatients, monitoring their SpO2 and HR whilst exercising. Exercise is extremely helpful prior to airway clearance to help clear mucus secretions. Also, I was responsible for cleaning inpatients equipment that they used for airway clearance and maintained the stock cupboards.
