Paul is a very competent people manager and team leader who builds trusting working relationships with his teams and identifies and deals with issues promptly and effectively, before they become problems. From my perspective as a senior manager, this is valuable as it enables me to be confident that I can concentrate on more pressing issues.

Paul is a great analyst and thinker. He is able to disseminate information and find the solution to a problem in a measured and articulate way. Paul is very receptive to other people's opinions and has a strategic way of thinking.

I help clients to access JBA's insight into flood risk and support our team of consultants in delivering high quality analysis. The outward facing part of my role is focused on fostering relationships with clients and identifying exciting new opportunities where JBA's models and tools can add value in analysing risk. I work with insurers, reinsurers global financial institutions, NGOs, humanitarian organisations and others with a requirement to understand their exposure to natural hazard risk as it affects people, economies, buildings, infrastructure and insured assets.Internally, I support the team of talented consultants to perform, handling reward, recruitment, training and wellbeing. I work with internal colleagues to evolve our strategy in line with the organisation's goals and values. Show less

My time in the Met Office included spells in science, technology and business roles, including team leadership and project management. Starting with the development of location-specific numerical weather forecasts for road weather forecasting, these products were eventually applied to a wide of government and commercial customers (road, aviation, energy, the general public). I contributed to the development and delivery of these forecasts, building and managing the database and delivery system. From here, I moved into a newly formed team working with scientists and business managers across the organisation to communicate scientific developments and translate customer requirements into research capabilities. This resulted in the successful deployment of an online information resource for the organisation. I returned to research, first leading a team of aviation applied scientists delivering meteorological consultancy and products to support global aviation (including involvement in the SESAR project) before moving on to insurance. I led the science team developing new products and delivering consultancy to the re/insurance industry. This market was relatively new ground for the organisation and part of my role was to build relationships with stakeholders across the industry to raise awareness of the products and capabilities of the team. My role also involved communicating the work of the team within the Met Office and the academic community to ensure that the research was built on the latest research and collaborations. As the remit of the team expanded to include disaster risk finance and disaster risk reduction projects, I become more involved in international development activities and the mitigating of weather risk in vulnerable economies. I also took a role in stakeholder engagement within the UK Climate Projections 2018 (UKCP18) project. Show less
