Maica provided excellent translation on all copy in a timely, efficient manner. Sometimes in advertising, a translation may need to be adapted to fit the message more literally and Maica was very adept at providing just the right phrasing to get the intended meaning across to the intended target. Maica is also a very good copywriter and has the skills to cover a wide variety of subjects.

Maica Murphy was an exceptional student during her term attending classes which I taught at Dalhousie University's School of Information Management. Her presentation skills were particularly strong and she demonstrated a considerably high level of excellence in the conduct of research. Her writing skills were at an extremely high level of proficiency and she was consistently an engaged and insightful graduate student.

During my time with the project, I have gained practical experience in data compilation, organization, and presentation. The project aims to produce a complete catalogue of reference to witches as they appeared in early English texts between 1550-1700, and the visualization and searching tools needed to unveil conceptual threads across these references, which in a corpus of this size, cannot be easily spotted through close reading and analysis. This project has provided me with a first-hand experience in interdisciplinary collaborative research. I work regularly with other researchers, a computer programmer, and respond to the needs of an illustrator, a system administrator, and a web developer. As the project continued to grow, I gained further experience with the project's data, how it is modeled and stored (across the MySQL database, Django and MyPhp Admin interfaces), and how it appears in web services. I have had the opportunity to occupy two roles during my time with Sobeys. As a translator, I completed the translation of all ad materials created by the advertising department including radio announcements, magazine ads, flyers, posters, and in-store messaging. I also participated in proofreading and approving translated materials for release to the general public. This includes coordinating communication with various entities who participate in the execution of the final product for publication and ensuring all modifications are effectuated. I was offered the opportunity by my team to participate in advertising production by coordinating individual projects. I oversaw the production of all stages of pre-press production of one of Sobeys' five banners. This included using desktop publishing programs to create the document, running it through the appropriate review stages, communications with the press and the merchandising departments in order to ensure proper end result. I completed a one-year assistantship position with the academic journal, English Studies in Canada. I worked with potential contributors as well as with institutions who purchase the journal on matters of scheduling, invoicing, sampling, and other administrative and logistical matters. I drafted and organized contracts between the journal and its contributors and updated records or payment on purchasing institutions. I also took care of any problems with deliveries when new issues were shipped out as well as performed various clerical duties. Show less
