Throughout my undergraduate career, I worked in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for UPSIDE, a study focused on the effects hormones have on pre and postnatal baby development from the first trimester up to three years of age. I performed weekly online data entry, and assisted in the proper labeling and storage of samples. I participated in study visits with mother and child participants, and in the EEG testing of the child participants.During my time as a research assistant I participated in a poster exposition at the University of Rochester Medical Center. My research proposal was extrapolated from the UPSIDE study data. The purpose of my research was to analyze the effects maternal obesity had on both maternal and fetal health, specifically regarding rates of cesarean delivery, gestational diabetes, and pre-eclampsia.

    • Intern for Summer Research Experience Program in Cancer Science
      • Jun 2018 - Aug 2018

I worked full-time in the Department of Cell Stress Biology under Dr. Asoke Mal. My research investigated the role of the LSD-1 protein in alveolar rhabdomyosarcomas (aRMS), a type of pediatric muscle cancer that has a 4-year median survival rate of only 8%. I learned how to grow aRMS cell cultures, transduce cell lines, perform and analyze western blots for each cell line, and statistically analyze my results through graphing and 2-way ANOVA testing. To conclude my summer internship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCCC), I participated in a poster symposium both at University of Buffalo Jacob’s School of Medicine, and at RPCCC where I gave a ten-minute oral presentation on my final independent research project: Investigating the Role of LSD-1 in Pediatric Muscle Cancer.
