Bio
Maria D.
Mai was my supervisor during a 6 month internship I completed at the Al-Hayat Center (Rased). More than simply a supervisor, she became an instrumental mentor to me. I was always awed by everything Mai was constantly accomplishing: fulfilling her role at Al-Hayat, starting a consulting company Edmaaj, working with the World Bank, giving lectures at Georgetown University, and so much more. On top of this, she took a personal role in helping me develop as a researcher and grants writer. Because of her, I left my role with many more skills in the NGO realm than before. Mai has an exceptional understanding of issues within Jordan, regional MENA issues, and global issues. She collaborates on everything from an international level to a personal and community level. I learned a great deal from her and I'm so glad to have had her as my supervisor!
Miriam Hayate
Mai represented a mentor to me. Ready and available to guide people, good listener and a tireless hard-worker. She embodies the perfect successful woman while being a good mother. She is able to push everyone to the limits, but everyone is able to learn a lot at the end. I learned a lot from her!

Long-Term Consultant to lead the Open Government Unit
-
Jan 2018 - Dec 2021
The Unit aims to improve the government of Jordan’s Commitment to the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative through the implementation of its OGP national action plans and improve its access and engagement of civil society and other stakeholders in the process. During the position, I led the development of Jordan's OGP Fourth NAP (2018 - 2020), and the 5th NAP (2021-2025). I also coordinated the implementation of the 4th NAP commitments that tackle policy-level changes related to improving civic space, enhancing political reform, advancing human rights, open data, and access to information. Coordination and assistance were offered for 11 government agencies, ministries, and over 100 CSOs. Finally, through the work, OGU enhanced the communication between the government and stakeholders through open discussion panels, focus groups, public commenting, and training for public officials.
