Volunteer Coordinator

As a volunteer coordinator, I led one to three orientations each month for new volunteers, with up to 30 participants at each orientation. I scheduled onsite corporate and school group volunteering events and occasionally offsite adoption and tabling events. To meet urgent shelter needs, I sought volunteer help using Volgistics, social media, and other forms of communication. I tracked volunteer hours and submitted end of the month reports to my supervisor. As part of the placement team, I greeted visitors, processed adoptions using PetPoint, reconciled our daily revenue using CardPointe and Microsoft Excel, attended offsite adoption events, and sorted donations. I helped our veterinary clinic with scheduling appointments using ClinicHQ and our animal care team with medicating cats. Show less

I led field trips, outreaches, scout programs, and birthday parties for people of all ages, mostly students in elementary or middle school from many different school districts. I facilitated one to six programs per day, and each program had about 30 participants in a field trip, class room, or StarLab setting or up to 250 participants in an auditorium outreach setting. During these programs, I would teach about scientific topics using interpretation, biofacts, non-releasable wildlife (turtles, snakes, opossums, owls, and hawks), and nature trails. As Georgia transitioned from GPS (Georgia Performance Standards) to GSE (Georgia Standards of Excellence) at their public schools, I helped update our program guides to fit the new objectives. Over the summer, I assisted Camp Kingfisher by filling in for camp counselors. Show less

Working at a world class tourist attraction, I interacted with thousands of guests from diverse backgrounds each day. I helped guests wayfind, engaged in conversations about our animal collection, and narrated dive shows and feedings over the speaker system. As captain, I created a daily rotation for our staff and volunteers and scheduled our lunches, breaks, tours, and shows.
