Having experienced first-hand the impact of eczema on life through my own daughter’s condition, I set up EOS to empower, support and connect families struggling with paediatric eczema in the UK. As the CEO, my role is to deliver the charity’s strategic aims, ensure its financial sustainability (annual budget of £300K) and oversee our day-to-day operations while working in closely with academia, clinicians and policy makers. I lead a team of 8 employees and a bank of trained sessional staff across the UK.Our services’ aims are:1. To support and empower families through the provision of tailored information, 1-1 practical and emotional support and specialist resources.2. To increase the confidence and self-management skills of children & young people with eczema through our 2 virtual clubs and a range of activities: the High 5 Club (age 3-10) and XY Club (age 11+).3. To offer families opportunities to share experiences and learn together with a programme of events across the UK delivered in partnership with dermatology experts and an online community.4. To shape services, encourage research and influence policy by being the voice of our members at national and international levels.5. To improve understanding of eczema and fight bullying by increasing the understanding of the condition globally and raising awareness through school workshops and training across the UK.As a patient representative and an expert in psycho-social support to families with eczema, I contribute directly to academic research projects (e.g. designs of trials and dissemination) and work closely with healthcare professionals through clinical networks, conferences and initiatives aiming at improving people’s self-management skills, psycho-dermatology provision and patient engagement in service design.
