I perform visual and statistical analysis of velocity and echo sounder data from vessel-mounted ADCPs using Matlab and a suite of Nortek software. I approach the quality assessment of a data set by exploring what it might tell us about the physical world. Documenting findings and suggesting next steps in comprehensive reports enables me to complete an analysis and discover how the pieces fit together. CODAR Ocean Sensors designs and manufactures high frequency radar (HFR) stations that measure ocean surface currents and waves. I participate in research and development and marketing. I use Matlab, Python, and SeaSonde software products to visually and statistically assess HFR energy spectra, wave, wind, current, and hardware diagnostics data and compare to a secondary data source. I also test and assist in evaluation of software. Collaborating with scientists at Rutgers University, we analyze wave returns from HFR sites along the New Jersey shore. Comparing wave height, wave period, and wind direction to nearby NOAA NDBC buoy output, we have learned that wind direction can greatly impact wave heights along the Jersey shore. Offshore winds create fetch-limited nearshore conditions that result in increased wave height with distance from shore. In contrast, onshore winds produce a more consistently homogeneous nearshore wave pattern. We are also analyzing bimodal wave conditions, which consist of wind waves and swell, and exploring methods for mitigating noise and interference. Fortunate to attend the Ocean Radar Conference for Asia-Pacific, I presented waves observations along the New Jersey shore (see attached DaughartyetalORCA.pdf) and developed a CODAR newsletter to describe the event for our partners and clients (see attached 2018_4th_ORCA_Asia_Pacific.pdf). Mar 2007 - Jun 2012
Led hydrologic and hydraulic (H+H) analyses across of a range of applications including riparian, wetland, floodplain, stormwater quality, and watershed planning. Developed hydraulic models of water distribution, storm drain, and sanitary sewer collection systems. Collaborated with environmental planners, aquatic and terrestrial ecologists, biologists, botanists, geomorphologists, geologists, and engineers to write cohesive scopes of work and to define project objectives and design criteria. Propelled collaboration through project execution, developed hydrologic field work tasks and analysis methodology, performed and oversaw H+H analyses, wrote and edited reports, presented findings and recommendations to stakeholders. Worked with GIS experts to develop construction cost estimates. Developed and managed project budget and schedule. Wrote proposals, lead hydrologic and hydraulic components of interviews. Show less
