Experience

    • Master Thesis Student
      • Oct 2021 - Present

As of October 2021, I have joined the European Master in Renewable Energy Program facilitated by EUREC and through the University of Oldenburg in Germany and the University of Zaragoza in Spain to pursue a Master Degree with a focus on Grid Integration. My reasoning for getting into Electrical Engineering was to help facilitate the energy transition from the current electrical grid to one that is more sustainable and better for the planet. In my years as a consultant, I have learned how the existing grid works from transmission line design to substation protection and controls. At this point in my career, I would like to take my knowledge of how the electrical grid works and build upon that to aid with the sustainable energy transformation of the electrical grid. One of the benefits of being a consultant is that you get to work with multiple utility companies and my choice to pursue a masters degree in Europe was no different. The program I have chosen has given me the opportunity to understand how the electric grid operates in several different countries and how those countries are supporting the energy transition. During my pursuit of a master's degree, I had the privilege of collaborating with OceansX, a Dutch startup focused on developing an innovative floating desalination plant. The primary objective of this project was to deploy the plant in Caribbean coastal regions that had been impacted by natural disasters, providing them with a reliable source of fresh water. Within this initiative, my role involved assessing the energy requirements necessary to produce 1000m3 of fresh water per day. I conducted in-depth analyses to identify the most viable renewable resources that could power the desalination system in an environmentally sustainable manner. Throughout the project's duration, I had the honor of representing our team and presenting our research findings at two prestigious conferences: the Frewshwater Conference in Curacao and the Caribbean Water and Waste Water Conference in the Bahamas. These opportunities allowed me to share our vision for clean water solutions and exchange insights with esteemed experts in the field. Show less
