My interdisciplinary research focus on a crucial component of belowground biodiversity (Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF)) and the implications for carbon cycling in temperate grasslands. By tapping into a long-term field experiment (>13 years), and performing controlled environment experiments with seven levels of grazing intensity in north of china this project produced a wealth of complementary data to enhance our understanding of environmental drivers (plant community and soil properties) of grazing effects on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in temperate grasslands and the possible outcome on soil carbon storage potential.Through my PhD program, I had chance to improve on many skills including field research, sampling strategies, experimental design, ecological and environmental methodologies, statistical analytical techniques,13C labeling and analytical approaches, DNA/RNA extraction and next generation sequencing and paper preparation. Besides, working in China as a part of my PhD program provided me the opportunity to expand my social network and collaborate with distinguished Chinese national academic research organizations such as Chinese Academy of Sciences. There was opportunities to collaborate with researchers in Institute of Botany at Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xian-Jiao Tong-Liverpool University based in China and Inner Mongolia University.
