The UCC Government and Politics Society is an apolitical society, founded in 1984. Our goal is to make students more politically aware and to become more active citizens. We are politically neutral and wish to afford students the opportunities to expand their knowledge of current affairs in the current turbulent political climate with confidence and enjoy themselves in the process of doing so. My main duties as Political Liaison Officer, I was responsible for auditing the bias of the society. I also organised one of our largest events of the year, a Politics Fair, held in March 2020. This brought together over 20 stands of political parties, social justice groups and international organisations. I also hosted a panel discussion on the day, with prominent political figures.

      • Jan 2020 - Present

The US Embassy Youth Council has two primary functions:1 – It is a consultative body on issues that are important to young people in Ireland. The YLC acts as a sounding board in this capacity. We are invited on occasion to participate in listening sessions with senior Embassy officers for this reason.2 – Identified as leaders in our respective fields, for this reason the embassy is eager to engage with us on topics that are of strategic importance to the Embassy. We attend a series of events throughout the year. These events are programmed around what the embassy is working on more broadly, or what the embassy’s interests in Ireland are.

The William Fry UCC Law Society Conference is the largest student run conference in Ireland. It is attended by professional legal practitioners, academics and students. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Mental Health in Education and Criminal Justice.’ A wide range or world-renowned activists, leaders and politicians spoke on the day. My specific role related to getting sponsorship from local businesses for the conference booklets and registration packs which were distributed to each attendee at the conference. This involved fostering links with various regional and national businesses and arranging this marketing opportunity with them.
