I had the opportunity to work with Madison on our STR Global market study project for Southern Utah University, and really valued having her on the team! She demonstrated leadership skills, organization, and was a natural presenter, all of which helped us make it farther in the competition.

    • The Piano Guys - Hospitality Lead
      • Aug 2022 - Dec 2022

I had the opportunity to be the Hospitality Lead at The Piano Guys concert held at the America First Event Center. This event was a sold out concert, selling more than 3,500 tickets. I loved leading my hospitality team to ensure the artists and crew had an enjoyable stay. I was in charge of breakfast, lunch and dinner for the artists and crew, as well as the green rooms for all of the performers. I also was able to assist the production team in set-up, and tear-down of the concert equipment, and was in charge of security rotations. After almost 19 hours of work, I was able to learn so much and gain valuable experience. For the pre-event roles, I helped market the event by sharing flyers with local businesses as well as share the news about the concert through social media. Throughout the planning of this event, I was able to learn the importance of working with contracts in the world of events. I relied on this new skill when it came to ensuring we had all the necessary materialsI needed. I had a lot of fun working this event, and am very grateful I was able to see my work in this concert come to life. Show less

I had the opportunity to help work and plan the Inauguration of Mindy Benson. This event was held on September 23rd, 2022 at the America First Event Center. This was a very important ceremony for the school because it celebrated Mindy Benson becoming the 17th president of Southern Utah University. It also focused on her becoming the first female and Cedar-born president, as well as her dedication and many accomplishments to the school. The event included a processional, a group of different speakers and the inauguration of the president. Part of my role included the pre-event planning phase. I focused primarily on marketing the event and getting people to come. I helped schedule an information table on campus for the event, created flyers and promoted social media advertisements for the event. Because of my volunteer work, I helped bring in over 3,000 attendees to the Inauguration. I also spent the day helping set-up and tear-down for the event, and made sure that the event ran smoothly by directing people where they need to go and sit, making sure the event was following schedule, overseeing mic checks and rehearsals and helping where needed. This event was a retirement party for Dr. Steed, one of Southern Utah University's hard working hospitality professors. It was held on April 6th, 2022 and was presented and planned by the SUU's Event Planning Management students. Guests had access to several appetizers from local restaurants in Cedar City, desserts, drinks, were able to listen to speakers, gave their congratulations to Dr. Steed and viewed a video that was created for Dr. Steed focusing on the school's appreciation for him. At the event, all of the work Dr. Steed had done for the hospitality field was showcased and celebrated. For this event, I volunteered and was placed into the Secret Event Alumni group, along with 6 other members. My role and responsibilities included reaching out to past alumni and current students to inform them about the event. I created an invitation email template that shared all the needed information about the occasion for invitees, which resulted in a successful amount of guests showing up. Also, I worked with our marketing team and helped gather film content to create a “thank you” video for Dr. Steed to play throughout the event. At the event, I ensured things were running smoothly and that it was set up properly. Show less

The Iron Games event was held at the Diamond Z Arena in Cedar City, Utah, and ran by the Utah Summer Games. This is a game filled with a series of competitions and divisions that both individuals and teams can register for. Both men and women compete against one another, and competitions are based off of the time the challenge was completed or amount of weight that was used in a sporting event. For the Iron Games, I volunteered to work in the Hospitality group with 9 other members and assisted in the pre-planning process of the Iron Games. Some of my roles and responsibilities included creating an FAQ sheet that would go on the company’s website that shared information about the event and Cedar City, composed email templates for event leaders from the Iron Games they could use for different groups of volunteers, and researched lodging accommodations for attendees and Iron Game representatives that could be used for this event as well as future ones. Because of our volunteer work, we ensured that guests knew when and where to be at the event and gave attendees resources they could use that made the event stress-free and run smoothly. Show less

Tourism Day on the Hill was an event that occurred on January 28th, 2022. It was held at the Salt Lake Convention Center, and was presented by the Utah Tourism Industry Association (UTIA). The main goal of the event was to bring tourism representatives, both private and public, together to attend workshops that would help them grow in the hospitality field. At the event, attendees would have access to meeting others in the field, learning about how Utah is affected by tourism, hearing from professional speakers and being surrounded by several different local sponsors and vendors. For the event, I was placed in the Media group with 7 other members. Our main role was to run UTIA's social media pages and create posts that included information about the event. We ran their pages and shared information throughout the planning process, as well as at the actual event. By doing so, we assisted in increasing the number of potential attendees, marketing the event and getting our audience excited and interested for Tourism Day on the Hill. We were able to improve reach and engagement scores with our posts and used detail-orientated skills to follow the company’s designated colors and double check that the information was correct. Because of our work, we were able to get more than 200 industry partners and 80 legislators to attend the event, therefore, successfully marketing and advertising the event. Show less

As Vice President of the HOSA club at Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers (JATC), I worked to plan and execute the school's blood drive. I worked with a team of 6 other members to promote to JATC students to sign up for the blood drive, and efficiently communicated with the American Red Cross team leaders to create a plan and learn the needed safety procedures to ensure the school was following them correctly. I also created informative posts for the school’s and club's Instagram and worked with the Student Body Office to create morning announcements to advertise the event. I produced a safety spreadsheet so all faculty and student volunteers had the needed information to help keep the event space clean and safe for the nurses and patients. My volunteer work lead to successfully having over 600 students attend to donate blood. Show less

The University of Utah holds a health fair every year in August at Rice-Eccles Stadium. The main objective of this event is to teach people about how important their health is in a fun and positive way. Several employees, doctors and partners of the University of Utah attend to help teach and educate the attendees. At this event, I volunteered to help with the set-up and tear down of the event. I assisted with setting up approximately 75 booths and served roughly 6,000 guests. I also helped transport needed materials to the event space, and would aided in running a booth educating guests about sugar in food and ensuring there were enough materials, such as pens and stickers, for the visitors. I had the opportunity to volunteer at this event for 4 years in a row. Show less

For 2 years, I created and lead a team of 15 people in the planning, production, marketing and set-up and take down of a community haunted house from start to finish. I worked with the Hardey Realty Group to discuss sponsorship details and created a project budget to purchase decorations and other needed materials, which I met. We gave guests a fun and safe experience by ensuring the haunted house granted them a memorable experience and that the area followed the safety checklist, that I had created. Along with the production and planning, I was also in charge of marketing the event, where I worked with my team to create flyers and social media advertisements that shared information about the haunted house, which lead to successfully bringing in over 200 attendees. Collected the items and transferred them to the shelter. Successfully collected over 100 items. • Helped plan an event with the Student Body Office where students could make blankets for patients at Primary Children’s. Successfully promoted the event through morning announcements resulting in 25 attendees and 50 blankets. • Planned the school dance with detail-oriented skills by ensuring the space would fit all attendees, hanging up decorations, selling tickets, purchasing snacks, creating music playlists and using time management skills to make sure it was set-up before the event started.
