I am pleased to be writing a recommendation for Madina Jumabaeva. For a little over a year, I had the pleasure working with Madina in our clinical research group for University of Rochester’s Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology division. She worked as a clinical research technical assistant, and would report to me, along with two other Senior Human Subject Research Coordinators and our Clinical Research Manager. In the time that she worked with us, Madina had excelled at every task that was given to her. She was always willing to take on a new project, is a very quick learner, and I always felt confident that Madina would complete her tasks properly with little oversight. She upheld high confidentiality while recruiting within our medical record system for potential study participants. Her hard work has helped me to enroll multiple study subjects into an ongoing Rheumatoid Arthritis research study. Madina also worked on multiple projects organizing files as well as rectifying and entering information into data entry systems and spreadsheets. One project in particular was for a research study that has hundreds of patients enrolled. She helped us out tremendously by entering data and resolving any queries found. With her excellent attention to detail, Madina would even independently resolve any inconsistencies she found with the data and would communicate her findings to us. If she had any questions we could always rely on her to come to us and ask. Medina’s willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities is something to be desired in any profession. She would always arrive with a cheerful attitude and was always a delight to talk to. Her capability to be such an excellent employee while working two positions and taking full time undergraduate classes shows how strongly dedicated she is to anything she does. She is greatly missed within our clinical research group. I have no doubt in my mind that Madina will excel with her future professional endeavors.

As an ORISE research fellow in the Viral Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch of the Division of Viral Diseases (DVD), I performed next generation sequencing (NGS) to generate whole-genome sequences (WGS) of measles and mumps viruses for molecular surveillance and tracing pathways of transmission. I helped develop and troubleshoot new molecular methods to improve sequencing coverages. I contributed to writing snakemake pipeline for cleaning up, trimming, alignment, denovo assembly and consensus generation for NGS and ONT MinION projects. I produced several phylogenetic molecular clock trees on nextstrain server (augur) for various teams in VVPDB. I completed a project on validation of Measles, Mumps and Rubella using a probe enrichment (CATCH design) technique for whole genome sequencing (manuscript in progress). This project received abstract approval for poster presentation at ASV 2022 Conference and I was awarded Student Travel Award for ASV 2022 Conference. Show less

I was deployed to Lab Task Force for COVID-19 response. As a CLIA-certified laboratory testing personnel in Triage and Reporting Laboratory Team (TRL), I documented and conducted RNA extraction procedures on MagNA Pure 96 and EZ1 Advanced XL systems. I oversaw front-end of daily operations and transferred specimens through ELIMS tracking system. I helped train new TRL members on extraction platforms and front-end standard operation procedures and ELIMS.

In Jarvinen-Seppo lab, I conducted an independent research project on developing qPCR based bacterial quantitation methods and tested infant fecal Bifidobacterium spp. and Bifidobacterium longum subs. infantis differences between cohorts at high and low risk for allergy development. I was hired as a Research Assistant (Sep 2019) and worked on a new project which was halted due to COVID-19.

I worked as the clinical research technical assistant in the Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology clinical research site. I assisted in data entry of 600+ backlogged patient files (2007-2018) in to excel spreadsheet and online DADOS database for a multi-site psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis study “IPART”. I organized subject files and helped screen for recruitment through EPIC E-Records system. I shadowed clinical procedures during patient visits for several different studies.
