Office Assistant
-
Aug 2016 - Dec 2017
As an office assistant working within a residence, I was in charge of student information, watching the entrances and exits for suspicious persons, keeping track of resources, and keeping quiet hours. I also distributed flyers and put up posters for upcoming Hall events and other activities on campus. Being at the front desk meant that I was interacting with the residents of the building. I got to meet people from all over the country and even some international students. Being at the front desk was not always just work. There were slow days when people would stop by just to talk about school and what did on the weekends. It's an experience that I value because it opened me up to different people and helped me grow as a person.

Campaign Bootcamp at the University of Texas at Austin has been an amazing experience! I signed up for the program so that I could network and interact with like-minded people. People who have a drive to do what it takes and learn everything in order to make a positive impact in the world! During the weekend we listened to lectures lead by professionals in their field, such as Liz Chadderdon. These professionals prepared us for a mock Campaign pitch at the end of the weekend. Our groups were trained and planned for advertising, budgeting, field work, and digital communication. If I should ever work on a political campaign, I feel confident that I have acquired the skill set that would allow me to succeed in it!

During my time with the Conservatives I was able to work on data analysis and input. It was amazing to see the diversity within the few boroughs that I organized! I was also involved with the event planning, marketing, for the party. I went on errands to prepare food, made sure that we contacted and thanked the patrons who donated to the events, and kept a roster of all the guests. My favorite part of working with the Conservatives was canvassing/distribution of information. I canvassed for a non-profit a couple of years ago, but my boss took a different approach. Canvassing with the Conservatives was up close and personal. There were no scripts, and the conversation tailored to each individual. Whatever they needed was in the end provided and fulfilled. Exactly what should be expected of local representatives! I was also given the opportunity to aid in research about constituents within the local wards and borough. What fun it is to learn more about the communities that I lived and worked in!

Community Leader
-
Aug 2015 - 2016
A Community Leader is similar to a Resident Assistant. Being able to have the chance to have this position was a fully transformational experience. I wanted this position because reaching out to fellow students is personally fulfilling. As a Community Leader, I worked to make myself available to the residents living on my floor. I acted as a resource of information if a resident needed advice in academics, faith, or in their social life. I was the first contact in the event of an emergency such as fires, break-ins and student interpersonal violence. Community Leaders also took care of small administration tasks, and managed the front desk in the lobby of the residence hall. As a Community Leader I also planned and participated in events within the floor and the rest of the building. These events included a water slide/barbecue party, story time with the girls, movie marathons, and All-Hall Halloween trick or treat for faculty and staff. While working in the position I learned a great deal about my limitations as a human. I realized that I expected too much of myself and it caused a lot of stress on my body and my grades. After the year ended I decided that I needed to focus on my well-being and my academics.
