Conducted research, formatted presentations, and attended regular lab meetings in the Wildlife Cooperation Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and worked jointly with both graduate students and Ph.D. candidates. Executed a two-year long experiment concentrating on parental care behaviors of adult Sage Thrashers (Oreoscoptes montanus), a sagebrush obligate songbird which exhibits biparental care. Documented if frequency of trips made by parents to the nest attracted predators and affected probability of nest predation from both mammalian and avian predators. Analyzed 170 hours of trap-camera video caught in summers of 2015 and 2016. Documented time stamps of arrival, departure, and visitation of adult birds to their nests in detailed Excel document. Actions of parent birds were categorized as on or off bounds, or visits and were transcribed into % attentiveness. Established trends in data using Program R, a statistical analysis engine. Produced graphical representations of linear regression and conducted Akaike information criterion (AIC) modeling, to establish most efficient mode. Research is currently in prep for scientific journal publication.

At Boise State University in Boise, Idaho I was paired with my mentor Dr. Todd Katzner on this National Science Foundation sponsored program. The Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) program in Raptor Research allowed for eight undergraduates from all over the country to participate in hands-on research opportunities. The acceptance rates was 2.5%, and I was chosen to be apart of this amaizng program. We researched spatial and temporal characteristics of an Eastern United States Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) population. I individually visually sorted 370,307 photos collected from cameras active for three years and visually aged Golden Eagles in 63,258 photos, leading to a total estimate of 356 individuals. With Dr. Katzner's guidance, we used Program R to conduct a chi square and Wilcoxon test for statistical analysis. I masterfully used Microsoft Excel to graphically represent age abundances per site and depict linear regression models. My project's weight was more than what the original 3 month REU program at Boise State University was designed to handle, so I independently chose to continue collecting data at the University of Wyoming and learned how to properly network with colleagues and mentors over email and calls. We began drafting a paper for publication, which was now at the time I had move to England, and thanks to the dedicated hard work of my mentors, we officially published the paper in the Journal of Field Ornithology in March 2020.

Worked within the WY IDeA Networks for Biomedical Research (INBRE) program and worked under mentor Mr. Eric Atkinson. Established research goals and learned introductory processes of scientific literature research and conducting experiments. Implemented and conducted two independent research projects over two years. Independently assessed songbird species richness and evenness on Northwest Community campus and surrounding areas. Collected data using several point count locations, each for a duration of 10 minutes, in the early morning daily for three months. Collected fecal samples from wild bat populations in the field. Learned accurate preparation techniques for slides. Conducted appropriate procedures to harvest needed intestinal parasites from vials. Presented each project as a poster presentation at a state-wide educational science conference.
