Assistant State Attorney
-
Aug 2021 - Present
As an Assistant State Attorney, I have practiced before five county court judges and litigated numerous trials and motions. Motions practice includes motions to suppress, stand your ground motions, motions to dismiss, motions for subpoena duces tecum, motions for depositions, motions to modify bond or no contact orders, and more. I handled general misdemeanors and DUIs for about six months before I was promoted to the Special Victim's Unit, where I practice in misdemeanor domestic violence - a specialized unit with the highest caseload in the office. In this unit, I have had the opportunity to see cases through from start to finish. I make the decision whether to file criminal charges, maintain contact with victims throughout the litigation process, communicate and negotiate with defense attorneys, argue at motions and hearings, and see the resolution of cases through plea, trial, or dismissal. I handle one third of the misdemeanor domestic violence docket, which includes approximately 100 active, filed-on cases, approximately 200 uncharged arrest cases, and approximately 400 uncharged non-arrest cases. With such a high caseload, I have learned to balance the volume with each case's need for attention to detail. Show less

IdeaFlight seeks to connect diverse creators with the resources necessary for success. It is a platform that enables entrepreneurs to create profiles explaining their goals and needs, and we match them with resources that fill their needs - such as local mentorship, business advice, legal advice, financial advice, and potential investors. We created IdeaFlight as part of the 2020 Global Legal Hackathon. As we advanced from the regional competition, the semifinals, the finals, and ultimately won both the Diversity & Inclusion Challenge and the Access to Justice Challenge, our dream became a reality. As a team of St. Louis locals, our ground zero is in St. Louis where we have wonderful partnerships with organizations like Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. We intend to grow and expand our platform nationally and internationally. Show less
