Kenneth Thorne, M.S.
I had the pleasure of supervising Marina Lentine throughout the duration of her internship with the Windy City ThunderBolts. After working closely with her for the entirety of our summer season, I would offer nothing but my highest of recommendations to any future employer. Her energy and positive attitude was contagious, as she demonstrated the capability to bring out the best in everyone she worked with. She showed no signs of complacency, constantly displaying a desire to learn and improve herself as a professional. Among her various skills, what became most evident was her natural ability to provide premier customer service. She thrives in situations of face-to-face interaction and I can confidently say the interpersonal skills she possesses are exactly what we look for from any employee we hire. During her tenure with the ThunderBolts, we called upon Marina to complete many tasks that were outside the realm of her initial responsibilities. Her willingness to complete such tasks without reservation illustrated the type of drive and work ethic she possesses. She took pride in her work and made it incredibly clear that she has a dedicated passion to work in this industry. I am confident Marina will become an extremely valuable asset to any organization.

In my role at Wrigley Rooftops as an event coordinator, I sold group tickets at the 11 rooftop locations for Cubs home games as well as meet with clients on game days to help with any customer service needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided me premier sales experience with a team of coworkers who were willing to assist me in any way possible. Although my time there was cut short due to the pandemic, this role taught me a lot working in professional sports and event management and what the work life will look like moving forward! Show less

In my role at the Fan Service Center at Wrigley Field, I supported back office operations for Cubs home games, stadium tours, and other concerts and events held at the venue. I triaged and resolved calls and emails for the season ticket holder Service Excellence Operations team. I love that it provided me with opportunities to interact directly with fans by selling tickets and providing technical support and education on the MLB Ballpark app. I'm always looking for new ways I can add value - the entire industry fascinates me and I want to know everything about it. This role was an absolutely perfect start to a career working in professional sports operations and event management! Show less

Tournament Director

May 2019 - Aug 2019
At GameDay USA I managed eight tournaments (50+ games) and volunteered at three baseball showcases. As Tournament Director, I traveled across multiple mid-western states and handled everything from setup to teardown for each event. I really enjoyed this role because it gave me exposure to numerous facets of event management. ✔️ Pre-tournament preparation of materials for coaches and players ✔️ Scheduled game times and fields, created bracket board for each tournament ✔️ Primary point of contact for coaches, parents, and umpires ✔️ Awarded medals to 1st and 2nd place teams in each age bracket ✔️ Took pictures and video for our marketing team to post on the website and social media ✔️ Packed and transported all of the equipment and materials to and from each tournament Also, a shout out to Mike Moyzis at Game Day for allowing me to accept a second concurrent internship based on my performance. It's a great place to work! Show less

Assistant to the Director of Baseball Operations
-
Feb 2019 - May 2019
This opportunity started as an internship in Guest Services for the Florida Gators. Shortly after I started, I reached out to the Director of Baseball Operations and expressed an interest in contributing in a bigger way. Fortunately, he agreed! My Guest Services responsibilities included being the first to greet patrons at Gator baseball events as well as providing directions at the stadium and ushering guests to their seats. My additional responsibilities included working in the Press Box and operating the pitch clock. This allowed me to coordinate with game officials before and after games to go over the rules and review performance. I truly enjoyed my time with the organization, and am grateful to Director Buddy Monroe for giving me the opportunity to make the most of my internship! Show less

As an Event Staff intern, I had the opportunity to work in multiple capacities and different departments including guest services, parking, cleaning, and security. This provided opportunities to interact with fans and patrons at a variety of event types such as Gator athletic events, concerts, graduation/commencement, and more. My duties included everything from taking tickets and providing directions to securing vital areas like backstage access and visiting team locker rooms. It was a great way to understand the responsibilities and realities of the people "in the trenches" that are often taken for granted but serve a critical role in pulling off a safe and successful event. This was an amazing opportunity to intern for a professional sports team in a role with direct access to high-value guests. I managed the experience in the executive suites including client relations, food and beverage prep, catering setup and cleanup, and much more. I also provided support for group events at home games, school day outings, and other events held at the venue. It was a great way to learn the importance of guest relations and effectively supporting large groups with high service expectations. Show less
