Soros Foundation English Teaching Program

  • Responsible for developing a long-term teacher training program for English teachers in the regions in Georgia, following guidelines from the New York office of the Soros Foundation• Wrote in-house proposal and received funding to carry out English teaching methodology courses in Telavi, Chiatura and Batumi for Georgian schoolteachers; developed a 40-hour course syllabus which was taught to schoolteachers in these regions • Developed a Training of Trainers course in order to train previous methodology course participants in new teaching methodology• Wrote proposal and received $13,073 grant to hold a two-week teacher development camp for 35 Georgian schoolteachers in Poti, on the Black Sea; organized camp details, recruited participants, hired Georgian and native English-speaking instructors, and supervised camp• Organized and implemented teacher training classes for secondary school teachers in rural areas of Georgia• Organized a group of Batumi English schoolteachers to restart the Batumi branch of the English Teachers’ Association of Georgia (ETAG), which is continuing to function well and increase its membership • Organized a group of English schoolteachers to start a branch of ETAG in Gori; traveled to other regions of Georgia to encourage the opening of further branches of ETAG as centers for further English Teacher development carried out by Georgian teachers• Presented workshops at two week-long teacher development sessions in Baku, Azerbaijan, hosted by the Open Society Institute Azerbaijan
