I moved from Kogan.com to Domestic Cat to continue designing native mobile apps. The small agency setting allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge and insight around how to do your best work with the time and money available. Working with a small, close-knit team is the highlight of this position. Everyone is pulling their weight, and everyone is involved at each step of the process; from tendering a new project, through research and design, writing software and delivering it, to maintaining and iterating on the number of products we're working on. My responsibilities at DC were: • Design leadership during client consultation • UX design: research, documenting flows and IA, prototyping and usability testing, developing personas and user stories • UI design: wireframes, visual design, motion design, design documentation • Mentoring a junior designer • Designing and collaborating on RFP responses for new projects • Managing small agile development teams of developers and QA officers (3-5/project) • Visual brand development • Responsive web development (HTML, CSS, JS) Show less

As Kogan grew, I showed my interest in web design and began collaborating with the development team whenever I had the chance (or time).Soon I had transitioned out of the Content team and into the development team as Kogan's first dedicated web designer. As I matured in the role and through professional development after hours, I started to recognise the discipline of UX design. I spent the rest of my time at Kogan championing the user experience of our website, designing our native mobile apps from start to finish, and a complete redesign of the checkout flow (and writing a lot of CSS).The team at Kogan continued to grow, and when Claire Pitchford joined as our Product Manager, I also began to learn the ropes for effective Agile project management. With Claire's guidance, I began to manage the app development team separately from our web team.During my time at Kogan as a UI/UX designer, I was responsible for:• Analysis of business requirements and user goals• Designing user flows• Researching competitor solutions and existing design patterns• Designing web and native mobile UI• Implementing UI prototypes• Writing semantic HTML5 and cross-browser CSS3• Validating and iterating on design decisions Show less

As an early member of the Kogan team I joined their support team, answering emails and technical product questions. Shortly after starting, I had the opportunity to design marketing graphics for the daily newsletters, promotions, including newspaper ads.The content team grew from just myself to three, continuing to develop marketing pieces while also taking control of the our shiny new custom-build CMS to author effective product detail pages.
