I taught students the subject matter they needed help with in their homes. In the past I would tutor in MY home or at libraries. But after COVID-19 appeared, I went to students’ homes. (I was willing to meet elsewhere and would enjoy Zoom tutoring as well, for older students.) For one of my students, I taught math, language arts and science for 3.5 hours per day, twice a week. For another student we focused solely on mathematics. I have assisted other students virtually with all subjects while their teachers were online, just helping them stay focused due to attention challenges, and that even included virtual classes such as gym, art, and music. Student attended who were trying to complete the necessary credits to graduate with a high school diploma (not GED). They learned via a computer program (Compass & Apex) which had a teacher, but it was not live. Students would ask the certified teachers in the classroom to teach them concepts that were difficult to understand. I was the science teacher for all the science courses, but I assisted students with all subjects. I taught all subjects to at-risk boys/youth who lived full-time at a boys’ home. I assisted the director in choosing curricula. Once per week I organized all-day field trips for the boys. Students were from 5th through 11th grades. Upon entrance to the program I performed all educational testing with students, to determine what level they were at in all subjects. A paraprofessional was provided to assist me with the boys’ learning and progress. (It was my dream to run a one-room schoolhouse.)
