I am very fortunate to be able to offer a variety of services to a range of students. For example, I teach grammar and essay skill workshops to college students, tutor students on an individual and group basis in the areas of composition, rhetoric, grammar, MLA and APA citation, and in the subjects of psychology, sociology, anthropology and philosophy. In addition, I have served as an embedded classroom tutor and assisted students for several years in developing skills for the successful completion of the Accuplacer Test. Lastly, I have also offered new essay workshops in 2015, targeted to a group of students who are at least fifty years of age and are returning to college for enrichment, a certificate in a particular area, or for a degree. I introduce my workshop classes with PowerPoints designed to encourage and facilitate writing. In addition, I am conducting a workshop this fall for students of all ages who desire assistance with essay and grammar skills. Below are PowerPoints I have used and a Prezi I have created for my current course.

    • Consultant/Educational Assistant to Director of Department of Advancement
      • Feb 2012 - Apr 2012

I served under the Director of Advancement to evaluate the Guide to Grammar and Writing, an online resource for college students, used at Capital but also at many colleges throughout the world. I suggested revisions in technological areas and content areas and submitted a weekly report and summary of suggestions which was shared with administrators at the college. The purpose of my work was to facilitate the updating of an invaluable resource for college students and faculty.

    • Instructor
      • Sep 2008 - Present

I create curriculum, including PowerPoint presentations, manuals, and exercises which I implement to teach students methods for writing effective SAT Essays, college application essays and in developing strategies for reading comprehension and retention across the curriculum. I have also created and taught courses in study skills and test taking techniques, in which I help students understand, retain and prepare for tests and quizzes in diverse subject areas, including English, Social Studies and Science. The courses are always tailored to the students' needs and are interactive, in that students work in small groups and also write as well as discuss course material with one another and with me. In 2015, I offered a new course on the revised SAT Essay. The experience of teaching a group of students from a variety of towns varying in age, grade level, gender, and background was most enjoyable. I have continued to offer this course and will do so again in 2018. In addition I tutor students on the verbal portions of the SAT Test and derive great pleasure and satisfaction from offering lessons to groups and to individuals.

    • Academic Tutor
      • Nov 2013 - Present

I have greatly enjoyed tutoring students in grammar, reading and essay skills as well as in preparation for the SSAT, PSAT, SAT and ACT tests. One of the most rewarding aspects of my experience has been the diversity of students who have been home schooled and/or are attending private or public schools and colleges. In addition, I have been complimented by referrals from parents, former students, and physicians who are familiar with my work at the high school and college levels. The private tutoring has been a wonderful way of guiding and facilitating the development of young men and women and adults of all ages. Currently, for example, I am tutoring an adult with developing his essay into a book he wishes to have published. I believe my experience as a University Supervisor for the NEAG School of Education, as a scorer for the College Board, a school counselor and workshop leader at Capital Community College, all have contributed to my profession as a tutor. The focus of my work has been on Test preparation as well as on assisting students with composing college essays and with developing time management and organizational skills. In addition, I have greatly enjoyed tutoring students through being a tutor for WyZant Tutoring. The experience of helping students has been very rewarding, and I look forward to expanding my private practice in the future.

As a University Supervisor I served as part of a team which mentored, observed and evaluated student teachers.
