Paw Fund Vaccine Clinic is a monthly pop-up clinic which offers free vaccinations for cats and dogs, helping low-income pet owners keep their pets happy and healthy. I work at the tech station for dogs. We start by drawing up vaccines, then tech teams of 2 pick up clipboards holding patients' and owners' information, along with required vaccines and due dates. Once we find the patient, we speak with the owner to confirm which vaccinations the dog needs. Once we find the patient, we speak with the owner to confirm which vaccinations the dog needs. Usually the Rabies vaccine, and/or the DAPP (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, parvoinfluenza virus). We give microchips, intra-nasal Bordetella shots, or other special treatments that the on-site veterinarian prescribes. Dogs under 1 year or with visible signs of worms will also receive a de-worm treatment. I weigh, give vaccines to, microchip, deworm, apply flea medication, and clip the nails of animals there. I can also help other tech teams restrain animals or give vaccinations if needed. As an intern of the quality control department, I helped in developing an assay for one of their proposed drug products. I worked with enzymes, proteins, and fluorescent substrates. The goal of my project was to develop a method which yields a higher signal to noise ratio in the assay plate reading. My project has lead to a change in Standard Operating Procedure for this assay, which helps optimize the assay validation process. As a second project, I ran a cell culture assay, and plated… Show more As an intern of the quality control department, I helped in developing an assay for one of their proposed drug products. My project has lead to a change in Standard Operating Procedure for this assay, which helps optimize the assay validation process. As a second project, I ran a cell culture assay, and plated, read, and analyzed mammalian cells. Additionally, I lead the effort to set up tours for the interns, in various parts of Regeneron. We toured the Process Science, Medical Devices, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing departments within the company. I also volunteered to lead and represent the Quality Control and Analytical Science interns in a video project we put together. This video will later be used to recruit more interns for this program.
