As Community Health Coordinator: • I supervise a Peer Outreach Specialist under a SAMHSA grant. SAMHSA’s Safety Counts intervention provides a group and individual level support for youth and young adults for HIV Prevention and substance use. We provide HIV, STI testing, Hepatitis screening, and PrEP counseling. Youth are also linked to GMHC services after assessments. I assist facilitate clients complete the 3 mandatory questionnaires as part of the cross-site evaluation for this grant. Almost 200 YMSMOC have enrolled in the program in the last 3 years. • I also oversee the running of a weekly mutual aid group for Trans-Feminine and Gender non-conforming individuals. I also organize about 130 youth monthly from the mainstream and Kiki ballroom scenes for house practices and meetings, in which we also provide other needed health and social services. • I implement Promise for High Impact Prevention, a popular opinion leader driven intervention that uses stories to educate target populations using the stages of change model. I assist in the development of GMHC’s annual Latex Ball for the House & Ball community with an average of 2500-3000 attendees. One of the other great things about working at GMHC is working in the creation of campaigns, including GLAAD Award Winning ‘I Love My Boo’ campaign. Show less

As an Educational Specialist: • I was responsible for the development and production of the After-School Photography Programs at The Harvey Milk High School. This creative program focused on using an art therapy approach based on basic Black and White Photography. • I worked closely with youth and young adults of color at high risk for HIV infection or not aware of their HIV status. Photography and art were a way to let youth and young adults to communicate about their lives, leading towards a healthy life and improved self-worth. Learning the fundamentals of photography, they took their images with 35mm cameras, developed and printed their own works of art, creating portfolios and exhibiting their photography at galleries, and publishing in magazines such as Vibe Magazine.
