General Manager

Jul 2022 - Present
The aim of Productivity Bootcamp is to develop young people into the workforce of the future. Our focus is on the construction industry, primarily driven to addressing the alarmingly low apprenticeship completion rate that is in turn creating critical skills shortages. Productivity Bootcamp combines hands-on trade training with innovative, soft skill components that shape a productive mindset and strong, transferable work ethic in the young people we train. Our graduates are prepared to handle challenges, both within and external to their future employment, that ensures ongoing success in all aspects of life. Being afforded the opportunity to lead Productivity Bootcamp has been a rewarding challenge both personally, and importantly from an outcomes perspective. It was a long term goal to assume overall responsibility of the strategic direction of a social enterprise, and lead a group of dedicated and like-minded people in creating positive outcomes for others. As a wholly Government (Federal and State) and philanthropically funded organisation, the greatest challenge I assumed in taking this role has been sourcing funding to secure future operations. Initially, operations across Productivity Bootcamps four NSW sites was scheduled to end in mid-to-late 2023. Through carefully constructed funding applications, supported by robust data and independent reviews, I was able to source and extend operational funding through the end of 2025 (a total of $5mil). The process has strengthened my relationship with Government agencies (to Ministerial level) and honed my business development skills. The new challenge is developing commercial opportunities to support, and in time reduce the reliance on a fully funded model. I have developed legal frameworks to source commercial opportunities in employment and alternate training that utilise the strengths of the funded model to broaden opportunities within the candidate base. Recycling and Distribution Centre Manager
-
Jul 2019 - Jul 2022
Initially employed as the Recycling and Distribution Centre Manager for Parramatta region, I was successful in gaining the role for the entirety of the Sydney Metropolitan region effective Jul 2020. This saw my responsibilities increase from supporting a store network of 20 sites to 87 sites, and managing an FTE increase from four to 30 staff that included sub-management and regional satellite staff (not including volunteer workforce). Leading my team through a period of large scale organisational change whilst simultaneously maintaining operational requirements and adhering to COVID-19 protocols was extremely challenging. Those challenges required consultative management, working closely with my team to discover the strongest methods to embed procedural changes and ensure the least disruptive path to transition. I developed new KPIs and performance measures to maintain focus on these new procedures and ensure the improvements made continued seamlessly into the future. Notable successes included: - Increasing production by 10% during a period where donations have decreased by up to one third, through improved production flow and building an adaptable workforce. - Building an adaptive workforce through improved training methods and initiating performance reviews where shared goals are initiated, thus giving staff more responsibility over their roles and output. - Initiating process changes and engaging with retail partners to increase DIFOT from a low of 40% to maintaining consist output in excess of 90%, highlighting an ability to enable change across organisational boundaries. - Driving new recycling techniques that led to increased revenue in the field by over 50% across the 2021/2022 financial year, in turn reducing cost of waste and championing our region in the Society's goal of reaching zero landfill. Logistics Execution and Compliance Manager
-
Dec 2018 - Jul 2019
Core responsibility of role was managing all freight contracts for the provision of freight services both within Australia and internationally involving import/export to/from Australia. These responsibilities extended to maintaining costs within expected budget allocation ($AUD70mil) while ensuring service provision met the expected requirements of all CHEP business functions. Key achievement within the role was the successful negotiation and establishment of a new NSW Metropolitan freight contract. The process involved reviewing terms within the current contract and looking for new opportunities, then engaging with current and potential suppliers to gauge interest and understand expectations. Once this understanding was achieved the next step was to develop both the tender process and supporting contract to be offered, which involved close consultation with CHEP legal, finance, marketing and sustainability departments. With all internal agreements in place we were able to illicit responses and begin the analysis and review process. The outcome was a definitive costing and benefit analysis that allowed a preferred supplier to defined, and concise reporting on this outcome to be communicated to senior management for further negotiation and approval. The complexity of this process meant review did run slightly beyond projected implementation date, however the contract was delivered in budget and the tender process and contract were approved for use in all future contractual reviews. Operations Manager
-
Apr 2018 - Sep 2018
Managed all supply chain and customer service functions with the defined purpose of implementing dedicated policy and procedures to instill an operational structure within a tech start-up environment. The role and entrepreneurial environment required me to commit to changes and find success based more on my experience and business acumen as opposed to dedicated data. This allowed both myself and the business to adapt quickly and implement change at an accelerated rate. Initially used my extensive experience in freight management to engage our freight suppliers, build understanding of the network and agreed service delivery, and find opportunities for improvement. Drove an 8% saving in total freight costs without negatively affecting the relationship with suppliers and overall service levels through collaboration with providers and defining accountability. These changes also required close collaboration with IT engineers to interface direct website sales with the improved contract terms to maintain system intuition. Review then expanded into analysis of freight cost recovery via customer sales, where through rapid testing were able to establish an improved pricing policy that led to 104% recovery of freight costs. Led enhancement of processes through engaging staff base to build operational procedures. Empowering staff to build the platform gave ownership of the process to them, and thus allowed changes to be implemented rapidly and concisely. Successful outcomes included: - development of new warehouse layout that improved storage by 40% and improved production flow. - increased productivity by 34% through improved staffing methods and performance criteria. - improved revenue retention through robust customer service policy without a negative effect on customer satisfaction. Present business cases to senior management and ownership (board level) to garner support and/or approval for new initiatives, including ROI analysis where capital expenditure is required. Establish strong cross-functional relationships to assist other business areas with process improvement initiatives and develop best-fit solutions for the Millform's over-arching strategy. Successful process improvement outcomes include: - Increasing DIFOT from a base rate below 60% to a position of 95+%. This was achieved by re-designing the fleet delivery schedule to provide greater coverage across our national customer regions whilst simultaneously decreasing the need for additional contractor services. - Negotiate service delivery contract with 3PL provider for permanent rigid truck support for local deliveries, allowing Millform fleet to concentrate on long-haul interstate work. This led to increased capacity of 40%, decreased costs of up to 10% on fleet running expenses, and opportunity for freight cost recovery through backload services to new and existing clients.
