Thornton Joubert MBA

Luke is a extremely intelligent young man who has the potential to go very far in life. He is a highly skilled creative thinker who truly thinks out of the box and a good problem solver. His work was always of a distinction standard that stood out above the rest as he went the extra mile to present work of a high calibre that showed true life application. Luke will enjoy a dynamic and stimulating environment and as he has a highly active mind he is a "go getter" who will see things through. I built a special relationship with him and he was a student who I could have highly intellectual discussions with and enjoyed them. I have not had discussions on such a level before with a student and therefore would put Luke in a different category than the normal student. Luke is also a trustworthy person. I would definitely recommend Luke for a position of responsibility.

Providing an "unclassified information service", I organised and presented events akin to a TedTalk designed for techies, applying lessons from neuroscience to improve agility and facilitate learning. Covid-19 meant the business was no longer viable. After completing my degree I rejoined the team in the Transport department, responsible for setting up, testing and operating small scale 5G wireless access solutions for clients and partners. I gained experience in software design, in-the-field device testing, IEE 802.11 standards, and was invited to advise government on a potential national skills shortage threatening to jeopardise the rollout of 5G technologies. While taking time out from my degree I assembled the premiere product of the company (the DN101) to meet customer orders in a timely manner, ensuring each unit met a high standard of quality with methodical construction and rigorous testing. Quickly taking over the company laboratory, I organised components and equipment in such a way as to maximise time and resource efficiency. I gained experience in 5G mmWave access technologies, radio frequency analysis, lab based device testing and software design.

I worked in a variety of roles including network services, device development and core network planning & design. I gained experience in traffic steering and testing protocols for new SIM based technologies but most enjoyed my work analysing the MVNO estate and architecture with a view to optimise utilisation and profitability. After seeing the nerve centre of EE and working with their engineers, I was inspired to get a degree in computer science. After securing funding from a private investor during the PJEA's dragons den style pitching process, I established a company trading in super sharp zirconium products (professional ceramics). After reimbursing my investor within three months, I went on to make a healthy profit but closed the company due to market fluctuations and manufacturing concerns. As part of my BTEC national diploma in enterprise and entrepreneurship I interned as a digital research analyst for PJ Media. While there I produced information packs on various business proposals, most notably Vodafone Qatar's network coverage analysis.
