MSc FinTech with Data Science - Distinction - 76% average. I had a fantastic year in Bristol in which I immersed myself in an exciting world of technology and finance. During the year I significantly improved my software and data skills, achieved a grade I am proud of, and built an incredible network. On top of this, I nurtured a hunger for entrepreneurship and innovation, and I’ve come away feeling ambitious and optimistic about the future. I’d like to highlight two projects: my thesis, in which I statistically analysed transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain; and group project, in which we built a decentralised app for creating and investing in blockchain-based index funds. In my thesis, I started by constructing a graph - or network - of all the historical Bitcoin transactions (which can be seen publicly on the blockchain). The goal was then to analyse the graph to identify correlations between properties of the graph and the price of Bitcoin. This involved a significant amount of data engineering followed by rigorous statistical analysis. In the group project we built a decentralised app - called Folio - for investing in indices of cryptocurrencies. The backend comprises a set of smart contracts which we deployed on the Ethereum blockchain, and the front end (written in React) is hosted on AWS. It was an eye opening experience which required a lot of teamwork and the ability to learn and apply new technologies rapidly. We presented our product at a Fintech West conference where we won an award for the strongest group project. FinTech subjects include: crypto and blockchain, digital markets and automated trading, machine learning in finance, time series analysis. Data Science subjects include: statistics, data engineering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing. Technologies: Python, Solidity, React, Scala, R, Spark, SQL, AWS
