During my time at Citizens Advice I initiated a scheme of having Test Engineers cross-collaborate and train on other projects (Which went against the grain of the siloed teams), to try and improve Subject Knowledge as well as raw test skill. One of the primary projects I was involved with was the Cross-Browser testing of both our functional website and design-system library. This facilitated 2 complete rewrites of the entire testing stack from the ground up, utilising a heavy infrastructure of Docker, Jenkins as well as both locally managed and cloud provided (Browserstack), selenium grids. Whilst doing all of these challenges, I strove to improve the culture around testing and shared ownership at citizens advice. This involved me taking on a leadership role with the shared internal style guide framework as well as setting up a new framework to allow testing systems to share lots of common setup code. Initially brought in to provide Ruby Automation expertise, role grew to provide analysis in the requirements gathering phase, as well as provide feedback and advice during the entire SDLC. In the aggressive FinTech market that Savedo was a part of, I was brought on earlier in projects to provide rapid, aggressive testing protocols for a variety of projects, some of which were used as prototypes to provide management with ideas of costings for rolling out projects to other european markets. One key example of this would be an AI-style Brain project that allowed banks to provide automated messages, which would either succeed and notify customers/client banks that something had been changed/updated, or in the case of a failed response, would bubble up notifications to the coding infrastructure. Another project which was conceptualised in a similar vein was a project to begin to provide the US market with a savings product infrastructure. This project was very different as the laws governing US-savings were much different. This lead me into the path of learning and advancing my skillset in the Web Accessibility Domain. Alongside all these rapidly prototyped products, the regular working week was mainly performed in a Kanban/Scrum mindset, with the majority of working effort going into prototyping and developing new models and frameworks at a rapid pace to showcase new and innovative ways of developing / dealing with issues, as/when they could potentially arise. Because of this new way of working, which I was previously not competent in, I was exposed to a lot of new technologies and toolsets, such as AWS DevOps and Dockerisation (Specifically Testing Images and containerisation approaches to hosting our applications).
