I was a student researcher in the lab of Dr. Lisa Ryno. We study bacteria and how bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics. For my project, I am focusing on the transcription factor rpoF, which regulates the operation of flagella and chemotaxis. It has been found that, at certain temperatures, overexpression of rpoF leads to robust biofilm formation. I am exploring this phenomenon using confocal microscopy. This gives a three-dimensional cross-section of the biofilm, including what substances might make up the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and how important different extracellular structures may be in the formation of biofilm at different temperatures when rpoF is overexpressed.

Attend monthly meetings and collaborate with other members of SAAC. We discuss and vote on key issues affecting the student-athlete community, and the campus as a whole. As a part of SAAC I have participated in and helped to organize multiple events and community service activities. Attend monthly meetings and collaborate with other members of SAAC.
