Geoffrey C. Lewis
Luis first impressed me with his positive, encouraging attitude and supportive leadership when I was a student in the inaugural MBA cohort at Hult International Business School’s new San Francisco campus. In his capacity as Dean of the campus, Luis consistently led by example in sharing an optimistic, enthusiastic vision for the future of the school and the success of each student. Luis’ skill at balancing professionalism and care for each individual really shone through in one particular situation. I have a fairly sharp sense of humor, and during an announcement Luis made to our class, something struck me as funny so I shared it aloud, not stopping to think that it could have easily been perceived as insulting. Rather than making a public issue of it, Luis deftly deflected the comment, and later sat with me one-on-one to expand my perspective of how my remark was likely received by my international cohort. He skipped the chance to score points at my expense or to publicly defend himself in order to do something much more valuable—encourage a young professional to consider the impact of his words on the team. That’s how you lead effectively and generate the loyalty and goodwill to inspire others to follow you: praise and encourage in public, and correct in private. Luis is a man who knows the value of people, deeply understands team and group dynamics, and has a firm grasp on the intricacies of international teams. If you want to work with a leader who puts the needs of his professional community above any personal ambition, I highly recommend Luis.

I have had the pleasure of working on Luis´ team for the last 4+ years. He brings a very strong understanding of multicultural marketing to complement his goals and leadership style. His unique multinational/multicultural experience and perspective has added a lot of value to my team and the other teams that Luis manages. He is a genuinely good person, and has great ideas to drive progress.

As Rector, I led a diverse team with 7 direct reports (vice chancellors and deans) and 2000+ faculty and staff (full-time and part-time). Ean University consists of three Schools, one Institute, and EAN Research and Publishing. EAN offers over 70 undergraduate and graduate degrees. I had direct oversight of an operating budget of US$38M. Ean University is internationally accredited by ACBSP, ABET, ACCA, ACEEU, and CLADEA. During my tenure, I represented the University before the Colombian Government and all international agencies in the country. I was a member of the board at Connect Bogotá, the CCYK Network, and I was an active member in the Rectors’ Committee of the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN). Internationally, I represented the University before the International Association of Universities (IAU - part of UNESCO). Selected accomplishments: * Integrated the online university (which operated separately until my arrival) with the traditional brick-and-mortar campus under the motto of “One University, One EAN Team” thereby reducing operating costs by 14.5% and increasing enrollment by 8% in the first academic year while fostering collaborative research among faculty. * Integrated and aligned the Marketing, Recruitment, and Admissions departments to work as a single team running a seamless cradle-to campus virtuous cycle under a single leader. Worked with the team to align and fine-tune the admissions funnel using digital tools such as lead-scoring algorithms, machine learning, and AI. * Led the curricular review process with the Vice-Chancellor of Academics. The review targeted 80% of all academic programs and was completed within 6 months. * Supported technology transfer projects with private corporations and other universities in the country, including the creation and launch of the second mobile environmental lab in the world (built on 2 electric cars) which aims at creating real-time pollution maps for the city of Bogotá. Executive Director
-
Aug 2012 - Sep 2017
As Executive Director, I lead a diverse team of eight direct reports and 80+ indirect reports across the U.S., China, and seven LATAM countries to oversee global student admissions, student life, international programs, and career services for this private, not-for-profit graduate school accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA, and SACSCOC. I manage a $14M budget to recruit students from 20 different countries and run a flagship MBA program currently ranked by the Financial Times among the Top 100 MBAs in the world. Some key accomplishments are: • Co-creating the entrepreneurship track within the INCAE full-time MBA program, including curriculum development, which later became the Latin American Center for Entrepreneurs (LACE). • Maximizing efficiency, security, and accuracy of internal and external communications, data management, and critical information by implementing new CRM, ERP, and SMS platforms. • Increasing graduate program enrollment 13%+ and undergraduate summer programs enrollment 62%. • Enhancing student relations by developing a mobile application, in collaboration with student representatives and the Student Life team, to digitally capture student feedback, concerns, and suggestions regarding various topics including housing, academics, and security. • Improving community relations by working with faculty to develop special outreach programs, including a social-entrepreneurship program to bring management knowledge and expertise to rural communities in Nicaragua. • Securing additional funding for high-impact projects in emerging economies, including $1.5M for the Latin American Center for Entrepreneurs, a significant amount for the region. Dean
-
Jul 2009 - Aug 2012
As Campus Dean in San Francisco and Associate Dean in London, I oversaw all academic operations for this top-ranked, private, international business school with six locations globally and accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA, by BAC in the UK, and NEASC in USA. This included faculty assignments, staff development, action-learning research, student admissions, student counseling, international exchange programs, and general student life while managing a $12M budget to attract students from all continents. Some highlights include: • Increasing enrollment at the San Francisco campus 139% over three years as a member of the global academic and global leadership teams. • Boosting overall student satisfaction 20% in the first year by developing a mathematical model to calculate campus and resource utilization rates across Hult campuses, which allowed more accurate resource allocation. • Ensuring 100% compliance with confidentiality laws, FERPA rules, and regulations by evaluating and updating data management processes in the admissions and registrar offices. • Heightening the number of graduate cohorts from zero to 5 by launching the first master’s program in London. • Elevating the number of graduate students with an effective action-learning experience in their program from 20% to 100% by co-developing the first graduate action learning initiative, LEAP. • Creating and launching the Master of Digital Marketing degree at both London and San Francisco campuses. Apr 2005 - Jun 2009
In these positions, I led the Executive MBA program, Full-time MBA programs, and student life for this private, autonomous graduate school accredited internationally by AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. I designed, negotiated, and managed the execution of global study abroad immersions, student exchanges, teaching and research faculty exchanges, and supported university recruitment and admissions. I also represented the University before global networks such as PIM, EMBAC, and AMBA and cultivated partnerships with other business schools and universities for student international programs in 90+ destinations, experiential-learning immersions in eight different locations, innovative learning, and general academics. Some achievements include: • Completing the migration to the ECTS system under the Bologna Accord in under two years, two years ahead of the European Union deadline. • Reducing the cost of developing new international immersion destinations for required EMBA study trips 50% while increasing academic quality. • Migrating the RSM full-time MBA from a 15 to a 12-month format while maintaining academic quality and key differentiators. • Co-creating and directing the annual experiential learning exercise, the Living Management Consulting Project, for the full-time MBA class. • Improved faculty feedback quality nearly 100% by developing an evaluation control system that allowed professors to evaluate themselves against other faculty members and their own previous performance while ensuring professor anonymity in compliance with privacy laws.
