Thesis tittle: "Unlocking demand flexibility: The SG-BEMS inter-operation framework, an agent-based energy and comfort optimization approach" The research carried out in my PhD aims to define the role and responsibilities of flexible demand in the emerging power system. This work shows evidence that the demand side can effectively support the grid operation, through the so called demand flexibility. Furthermore, it is shown that it is possible to use different allocation and decision making strategies to invoke enough demand flexibility while minimizing the comfort loss in each building. However, it is also shown that such flexibility depends not only on the physical characteristics of building, but also on the characteristics of the environment the building is located at. For this reason, and to facilitate the flexibility aggregation and dispatch process, such parameters need to be included in the definition of the demand flexibility potential. Show less
