Luigi and I met in a difficult part of my journey and with his passion and wisdom he helped me work smarter, solve problems quicker and how to avoid failure. He is such a passionate and driven person and I truly thank Luigi for all he did for me and my family. I recommend anybody that is looking for a true mentor you would be blessed to engage with him. All the best Luigi.

Luigi and I have been connected through social media for over 4 years. In that time I have had the honour to assist him to improve the impact he creates on LinkedIn, and create an impact he does. Luigi's content and passion for what he loves shine through on his profile and daily presence here. One of LinkedIn's greatest value propositions is the opportunity to connect with great people solving meaningful problems, there are few better than Luigi. Connect with him today.

I am currently working in various electorate roles, managing a training team, a mobile support team, and a post-election team. I am proud to have an opportunity to support the democratic process in New Zealand, with a wonderful group of people. This is my second stint at national elections. I thoroughly enjoyed participating and contributing in 2020 and am doing so again in 2023. How is your business doing after the COVID19 lockdown? How are you communicating with your existing customers? How are you seeking new ones? What happens when you stop telling your stories? That's right, business declines. Do your customers and prospects know you are still there and what you do? Do they know why and how they should work with you? Who is going to tell them? You don't need a writer on salary. I'm there when and where you need me. Btw 50% of my business is in North America, Asia and Australia and the other half is in New Zealand. I can even work while you sleep:) Under the moniker of Telling Our Stories I am also working as a contract consultant, trainer and team leader, calling on many years of experience across multiple industries. • Area Manager Census 2023
      • Jun 2022 - Sep 2023

Area Manager for Census 2023, helping to provide a clear picture of New Zealand residents to enable beneficial outcomes. Managing an area of over 2500 square km with a diverse population, locating and setting up a hub to support the needs of 3 regions, recruiting people to run it, a training facilitator, 7 team leaders, with ultimately a team of around 100 people has been a very exciting project to date. I promised my team, a marathon followed by a sprint, mixed in with lots of ambiguity and unexpected situations. The training and support from the head office have been fantastic, and I have a great team. Add in a cyclone, followed by a deluge of rain, resulting in houses becoming inaccessible, potholes turning into slips, and many people having a distrust of government, and the continuing impact of COVID-19, the promised ambiguity arrived in buckets. I was very much drawn to the opportunity to start a business unit from scratch, build it to achieve specific outcomes, and then break it down again, and it has been an amazing journey. I will have mixed feelings when it is over. Pride of what we have achieved (exceding our KPIs) and a little sad that by the time people became highly skilled in their roles, the job was over. Having said that, this won't just look good on their CVs, it will show resilience, and the ability to work in complex times, and hopefully in the next 2 years when the results come out, we will be able to hold our heads up and say we did a much better job than was done in 2018, which has been a key goal for the organisation. The winner? Everyone in New Zealand because the better the data, the better the social and economic outcomes. Show less

    • Contract Team and Shift Leader to employed Field Coach
      • Jan 2020 - Jun 2022

After contracting to the company as a shift leader and team leader in COVID close contact tracing for a year in 2020, I was offered a 6-month contract as an employee field coach, covering for someone who had a prolonged illness. That fixed-term contract was extended twice. I coached and supported a team of around 30 field research surveyors across multiple different research projects in health, crime, and transport for government departments. SoLoMo Consulting is not currently trading. However MD, Luigi Cappel is available for writing assignments such as articles, blogs and social media posts under the new banner of 'Telling Our Stories'. Do you have a story that you can't get around to telling? Talk to Luigi, today. We recently published a new book, 5 Top Mistakes People Make When They Are Buying a House. Ask me about a free copy. This is now being developed as a series of videos and an Audible book for people who prefer not to read books. Training and consultancy services to businesses needing advice in the areas of Blogging, Social Media, PR, communications and Mobile with a particular focus on Location-Based Services. One-on-one help with how to tell and share your company's stories in order to achieve your business objectives. The area of location-based services (LBS), especially from a marketing perspective is still crossing the chasm, despite a plethora of devices and solutions flooding the marketplace. Whilst many new services and initiatives are being developed, there are few ' subject matter experts' available to help business and consumers to find the nuggets the Gartner Hype Cycle has predicted. Problem-solving for companies with an objective view from the outside in, i.e. customer-focused and insight-driven. Helping you share the passion that got you into your business in the first place. • Manager National Travel Information Service
      • Jan 2014 - Oct 2019

Everything and everyone relies on transport. Accidents, congestion, highway maintenance, weather, holidays are just a few things that impact on our customers. I believe that a major factor in reducing the stress this causes is helping people be well informed so that they can make the best possible decisions before and during their travel. My team provided travellers with information to help them make their journeys more efficient through a variety of services and partnerships. Collaborating with other parts of the business, I lead a team of people in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, all committed to helping customers including the general public, tradespeople, commuters, freight and tourism. We delivered information services from web to social media, API's for developers, email route alert subscriptions, broadcast radio and TV, car navigation and more in an ever changing environment. This work was a perfect fit with my passion to improve productivity, reduce stress and create an environment that people enjoy living and working in. If people use information to plan their journeys, take alternative routes, and modes like public transport, delay their trip or even cancel it if it isn't important, we all benefit. The challenge is making people aware of it and using it. Unlike selling a product, people don't typically look for information until something impacts on their journey such as an accident or a traffic jam. They then look for information based on their knowledge or first thought, which makes for an interesting challenge as the media constantly evolves. Unfortunately NZTA decided that they no longer wanted to have a national team, preferring to focus on regional differences and the National Travel Information Team was disestablished through a restructure which made my role redundant. I remain highly passionate about reducing the impact of planned and unplanned events which causes stress to people and industry through timely RTTI. Show less

    • Sales & Marketing Manager
      • Oct 2004 - Sep 2012

As Sales & Marketing Manager of this business, which was sold to the NZ Automobile Association and subsequently to TomTom, my roles and the technologies were varied and exciting. We helped pioneer the launch of both car navigation and real time traffic on devices as well as web sites and social media, including sites like AA Maps and Yellow. I was directly involved in the development of AA Traffic, a national social media service for the largest membership organisation in New Zealand. I worked very closely with other teams in the AA, particularly in relation to marketing and communications. The introduction of car navigation was exciting and included working with most car distributors including BMW, Honda, Holden, Ford and Mazda. Car Navigation brands including Navman, TomTom, Siemens VDO and Metroview. Fleet Management was another key area and my accounts included the majority of FM companies in NZ providing them with the most accurate road centreline available for the country including eRoad, Navman Wireless and International Telematics. I was also part of a team working with the Ministry of Transport regarding mapping for eRUC. We launched GIS Business Intelligence SaaS products that were consumed by many industries from Government Departments through to field sales, field service, legal, insurance and other sectors. I presented at conferences including the Location Based Services Conference in Amsterdam and met with organisations such as ANWB, being a native Dutch speaker. Our team developed the highly successful Location Innovation Awards which allowed people to develop apps and concepts based on location based information from tourism to public transport and these went on to be used in courses at Massey University. We delivered web mapping tools and sites, such as AA Maps, ahead of Google and were ahead of our time in innovation and delivery. Show less

I joined Rocom when they purchased my Business, Mission Control and helped to grow Rocom's leadership in the wireless and mobile space. The role grew to also encompass sales management of Auckland and Wellington branches.
