      • May 2012 - Mar 2013

The goal of this project was to challenge my abilities as a programmer against the best high performance code base I knew of, the last pure C creation of John Carmack, who is one of the two C programmers I admire (the other one is Linus Torvalds). The conclusions were that it was indeed possible, automated tools would be of huge help and overall it would be pointless to sink that much time for a result noone would be interested in.Software Analyst:Solution DesignSolution ArchitectureSoftware Developer:Code Review Show less

    • DataCenter Architecture
      • Mar 2012 - Aug 2012

The goal of this project was to create a largely passive cooling system for high density datacenters. The conclusion was that it would be possible and practical to manage the heat more efficiently and with less risk using chassis-level heatpipes connected to rack-level watercooling exchanging heat with running water below the floor tiles. The benefits over conventional systems is that there is no oil or water within each chassis, limiting the points of failure to the connectors on the cold walls of the rack, which are strictly unable to cause any electrical fault thanks to gravity. On top of that, the simplicity of the heatbus design guarantees cheaper operation than fan based or waterblock based cooling systems. And lastly, the system using running water is extremely energy efficient as it only uses one set of pumps per rack plus the artificial river set of pumps.Everything else is just handled by gravity and the heat capacity of H2O.Infrastructure Design:Cooling System Design Show less

The goal of this project was to improve the Linux Kernel by fixing the broken bits (among which mdadm) and then abstracting it to reduce the code base size.A preliminary study was completed confirming that there were indeed good savings opportunities because of duplicated code, as well as possible improvements to the mdadm code base. This project is mostly waiting for a good excuse to get started.
