    • Crisis Project Worker
      • Jun 2021 - Sep 2021

As a Crisis project worker, I help run the busy drop-in service at SIFA Fireside. Vulnerable adults present at the day centre in crisis, and are supported in accessing housing options, mental health services, drug and alcohol agencies, and other teams within SIFA. This is a frontline service where we assess the needs of clients and ensure they get a complete support package. My specialism on the team is with female rough sleepers. The women’s rough sleeper project works in close connection with housing providers and domestic violence services to create a clear pathway for women presenting in crisis at SIFA. The aim is to get them inside as smoothly as possible and provide ongoing support once they are there.

    • Changing Lives Project Worker
      • Sep 2020 - Jun 2021

SIFA Fireside supports people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. As a Changing Lives project worker I worked with clients in employability skills, such as running the job club and working one-on-one to coach clients around job applications. I also supervised projects such as Photography club, English class and Cooking class. A big part of the role involved supporting clients to acquire ID and Settled Status in the UK.

    • Community Engagement Officer
      • Jul 2019 - Sep 2020

Combining desk based research and community outreach, this role helps Citizens Advice Sandwell better understand the demographic of their clients. I generated and analysed evidence based on qualitative information and statistics, and recommend service delivery improvements based on the information. I also spend a lot of time outside of the office, engaging with local groups and doing independent research in the community. The other side of the role included being the Research and Campaigns lead. Here, I took internal requests for reports, where I turned large amounts of data into an informative brief that could be taken to meetings with stakeholders. I also oversaw campaign strategy and used internal and external data to build support for campaigns. The campaigns I ran were on homelessness reduction in Sandwell and the collection of Council Tax debt by the local authority.

    • Help To Claim Adviser
      • Mar 2019 - Sep 2020

After being a volunteer for the company, I was hired as a specialist adviser at Citizens Advice. My role enabled people who have difficulty making Universal Credit claims understand the process and get to their first payment. I provided face-to-face, webchat and phone support to members of the community with issues ranging from domestic violence, refugee status, mental and physical health problems, and language barriers. This was a target based position where I always exceeded targets by significant margins. As well as being one of the highest achieving members of the team in terms of targets, I was also selected to monitor the quality of the casenotes being produced by other members of the team since my own work was highly accurate.

      • Oct 2018 - Mar 2019

I was hired for a short term consultancy position at The Delicate Mind where I oversaw a campaign they ran in the winter of 2018-19. I supported in the designing and monitoring of the campaign. The result was a huge victory where we fundraised over £1000 for the project when we only aimed for £700. This went to providing food, clothes and other supplies to homeless people in Birmingham. This project also gave me the opportunity to speak at LUSH Birmingham, where I provided a workshop on masculinity and validation.

This role supported students in understanding campaign strategy so that they could create the most effective campaigns possible on their campus and beyond. For this, I created educational resources that could be accessed by all students, one-to-one campaign doctoring sessions and presentations / workshops for general campaigning information. I also oversaw the campaigns budget and allocated funds to student campaigns, as well as buying and monitoring general campaign supplies in the Students' Union. Campaigns from this era include organising a presence at the Refugees Welcome march in London, raising awareness about sexual harassment on campus, and a Cut the Rent! campaign about student housing costs.
