I worked as part of the cataloguing team within the Library of the European Parliament. My primary task was to clear a large backlog of a library-produced products, the Library Briefings. 5-10hours per week were spent working on the Information Desk; greeting clients, providing reference services and redirecting more lengthy requests using an in-house request management system. These apects of my traineeship involved using Symphony(SirsiDynix) cataloguing and circulation modules. The remainder of my time was spent working with the New Media team. More specifically I worked with the Facebook team in creating posts and finding suitable pictures to illustrate the products we were promoting. This involved notable use of GIMP photo manipulation software. I also wrote summative blog posts for the blog of the Directorate General as well as creating tweets promoting library material, products and events. During this time in the European Parliament, I also became very familiar with the modus operandi of the European Institutions and gained good insight into European policy and lawmaking. Show less

In part fulfillment of my MLIS, I worked closely with the museum's Director of Library and Archives in order to reinstate the library of the institute. As a group project, our aim was to establish the necessary policies and procedure needed to successfully run a library of this kind. Personally I was mainly involved in the process of creating an exemplery catalogue for the library, establishing an "in-house" classification system and developing both collection development and preservation policies.
