Independent Mental Capacity Advocate
-
Apr 2007 - Apr 2010
Supported and represented individuals who lack mental capacity with health and accommodation decisions if they do not have friends or family to represent them. Represented clients with safeguarding issues when family were involved. Where possible I ascertained their wishes in terms of these specific decisions and provided NHS and social services decision makers with this information. This required attending best interests meetings and providing a written report to them outlining the person's views in relation to the decision. The role also involved training NHS and social services professionals in the IMCA role in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
