Art Therapist, Dyadic Art Therapist
-
Nov 2008 - Present
I believe in child-centred, child-led therapy using art materials, clay, sand trays and puppets. I help children to find a way to express their thoughts and feelings through creativity and play. Together I work with the child or young person to identify new strategies for expressing and managing feelings, thoughts and behaviours at home and at school. I also work dyadically with parents/carers and children using the creative process to strengthen relationships. Dyadic art therapy is a way of working that focuses on the relationship between the child and the parent. The sessions are intended to enhance a parent’s understanding of their child’s thoughts, feelings and mental landscape. Through this understanding it is hoped the parent will have a greater ability to support their child. Dyadic art therapy draws on attachment theory, neuroscience, psychoanalysis and developmental psychology.
