As an Enterprise Coordinator at Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), we are working to expand The Careers and Enterprise Company’s (CEC) Enterprise Adviser Network to transform the provision of careers education in schools and colleges across Greater Manchester. Working with school and college leadership teams, we are supporting them in developing long term and sustainable careers strategies with employer encounters at the heart to inspire and inform young people about the fast changing world of work. My role is to: • Support school and college leadership teams, and Careers Leaders to transform the provision of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG). • Support young people and inspire them by connecting them to opportunities offered by the world of work. • Complement and enhance existing activities, increasing the number of quality encounters young people have with employers whilst at school and college. • Develop new and innovative approaches to careers and enterprise, building and supporting strong partnerships with business and providers across Greater Manchester. We are currently recruiting volunteers, drawn from local businesses to help schools and colleges to build sustainable plans and strategies for CEIAG and employer engagement. Becoming an Enterprise Adviser is a unique opportunity to support a school or college in improving opportunities for young people, and it is also a chance to join a network of like-minded individuals. We are also looking for businesses and individuals to support the wider Enterprise Adviser Network to deliver learner and parent facing activities to ensure exposure to the world of work for our young people. If you are a school, college, business, or require further information, please contact me. Further information can also be found at http://bridgegm.co.uk.

Whilst on placement with this organisation I had the opportunity to work with the Careers service and other external agencies and organisations such as Gateway/National Careers Service and ProCoNW. My main duties involved speaking to students over the phone and via email and answering their queries. I liaised with other departments within the university as well and sometimes had to refer calls to the appropriate departments. I was also part of an outbound team for some months which involved calling prospective students about the courses we had to offer. I also created student records on the system and processed payments.
