Let's Talk is a service offering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in both group and 1:1 settings to adults with mild to moderate problems with anxiety and depression. It is a stepped-care model offering high-volume, low-intensity CBT, and higher intensity psychological therapy including trauma work. I am an assistant practitioner at Let's Talk, responsible for completing eligibility assessments for patient's who are referred to the service (either by themselves or by other healthcare professionals) and signposting them to appropriate treatment options. I have a good knowledge of the treatment options available and am competent in assessing risk, seeking supervision when a patient is complex or displays significant risk factors. I also facilitate psycho-educational courses, teaching CBT skills and strategies in a group setting. I am hoping to begin training this year to become a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, which will allow me to treat patients on a 1:1 basis using a CBT approach.

Cotswold Spa is an inpatient service for young people with eating disorders. As a support worker I was constantly interacting with and responding to the needs of individual patients. This position gave me experience of working with a variety of mental health problems such as anorexia, bulimia, depression, self-harm, suicidal thinking and obsessive compulsive disorder and I am confident in dealing with challenging behaviour. I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team, helping the patients to work towards recovery. My responsibilities included adhering to care plans, observations, meal support, physical observations (weight, height, blood pressure, temperature), body mapping, running psycho-educational workshops, updating continuous care records and being available as a source of psychological support for the patients. I often sat in on group psychology sessions such as Cognitive behaviour therapy. During my time at Cotswold Spa I attended various clinical training courses such as risk management, suicide prevention, manual handling, quality and performance monitoring, disengagement and no health without mental health.

    • Assistant Neuropsychologist
      • Jun 2014 - Jun 2015

While working as an Assistant Neuropsychologist in an Acquired Brain Injury rehabilitation service I developed my skills of psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention and became confident in working independently with patients, formulating a plan for their care under the supervision of a consultant neuropsychologist. I am proficient at conducting detailed, semi-structured clinical interviews, analysing and interpreting self-report psychometric measures of mood and carrying out risk assessments. I have extensive experience in assessing patients on a wide variety of neuropsychological tests including the WAIS-IV, WMS-IV, DKEFS, BADS etc. I am competent in using the accompanying computer software to analyse the results of the tests and writing reports of the results for multi-disciplinary professionals, including recommendations for future treatment based on the results of the assessment. Using the results of the assessment along with the information obtained in the clinical interview, I worked with patients to set SMART goals geared towards rehabilitation from their injury. I taught memory and organisation strategies to help the patient adjust to their life post-injury and anxiety management strategies including breathing retraining and relaxation skills . When patients presented with low mood or anxiety, I taught basic CBT skills such as mood and behaviour monitoring, thought challenging and behavioural activation. Whilst in this role, I developed a working competency in managing my own caseload and holding responsibility for my patients’ treatment through effective use of supervision and professional communication with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
