    • Community Engagement Project Officer, Quietways
      • Feb 2015 - Oct 2015

Community engagement for Quietways, a TfL cycle programme building quiet backstreet cycle routes connecting up London. I coordinate projects to increase community participation in street design and the development of new routes across different landscapes in London. I work with a range of stakeholders from local residents to borough officers to special interest groups, schools and the hard to reach (elderly, disability groups among others). The role involves design of process, resources, materials, innovation in participatory methods and lots of influencing. Balancing different needs in a dense urban context to reach outcomes that favour more active, healthier lifestyles for communities involved and the environment. The role is extremely practical, front facing and requires great resourcefulness and ability to connect ideas and people.

    • Bike It Plus officer
      • Sep 2013 - Feb 2015

Managed the Sustrans Bike It Plus project in a dozen schools across two east London boroughs. This involved coordination and delivery of this behaviour change project enthusing and enabling the school community to switch to cycling for their school journeys. This with the aim to beat the traffic, reduce pollution and get fit, tackling childhood obesity at the same time. Bike It involves a wide variety of events including (but not limited to) assemblies, bike clubs, bike breakfasts, route mapping and auditing, consultations (fun ones that involve free cake), bike maintenance, teaching parents how to ride, training pupil cycling ambassadors. To build sustainability into the project I worked closely with the local authority, designed and ran training for teachers, developed local volunteers and relationships with partners in the boroughs such as bike shops and cycle training providers. I also created new resources and developed and sourced funding for new projects and ideas to work with different audiences.
