Business Development Intern
-
Jan 2018 - Mar 2018
Fitted into the business development team and contributed to a variety of projects. This opportunity provided an introduction to the role of technology transfer. I gained an understanding of business, commercialisation strategy and importance of intellectual property. I independently produced in-house evaluations of the commercialisation potential of a range of technologies and led pitches of business opportunities to senior managers, suggesting possible routes-to-market.I prepared initial assessment of accessible markets using online resources from Frost & Sullivan and GlobalData. Additionally I became familiar with Espacenet to logically and systematically search for prior art.I conducted market research involving brainstorm groups and telecom interviews with representatives from major companies and I submitted a “self-file patent” in line with innovation strategy.

I used multiple cell types and learnt how to modify my experiment depending on specific cellular properties (i.e. cytoxicity limits). This studentship enabled me to master sterile tissue culture etiquette as well as efficient time management of experimental procedures.
